Wearing a seatbelt is considered normal in everyday life and we are made to do it for our own well being.

So what do you think of making it illegal to not wear hearing and eye protection while out shooting. Or compulsory to wear hunter orange?

We may be made to do this in the future by increasingly nannyish governments.

Thoughts?

No and No.

It's peoples choice what they want to wear. I can see cases if such a stupid law was brought in of people having certificates revoked because they didn't put hearing and eye protection on to shoot the fox that was sitting in the garden etc. It would be impossible to enforce, nanny state rubbish that would never work and be un-inforceable just like the hunting act.

voted yes to the hearing and eye protection, ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION regardless of field target or other shooting.

i wonder how many people here have had the unplesant fly in the eye :D? have a broken target hit you at 60mph or so  , have a gun discharge powder up in your face, or god forbid the gun lets go and blows apart !!!!!! dont say it wont happen to me ,,,,,, it may well do , you have two eyes ,look after them please.

hearing i guess if you want to be deaf go for it, i know for a fact your hearing will suffer without your awareness or knowledge, large decible noise will gradualy damage your hearing, look at a machineshop for instance, how many of them can you not wear protection in :good:.

as to the orange vest, yes again, anything that promotes a safe shooting/hunting enviroment gets my vote.

my strong opinion, you may not agree, but thats your choice.

I personally don't like to be made to do anything, so no to both! On a more reasonable note, I would choose to wear ear protection with a loud gun. As for the orange jackets, I like to feel that anybody bright enough to put a bullet in a rifle should be able to tell the difference between a deer and a human. Especially with our strict "don't shoot unless you are sure of your target and its surroundings" rule. Not meaning to sound rude here, but I feel the orange jacket rule is more suited to america, where any plonker can buy a .458 and go out blasting in the woods whenever they like!

With all the health and safety laws that abound in their ridicuousness throughout our daily lives, I have to wonder how it was that many of us older chaps got to this age without someone holding our hands. I am all for laws such as the MOT test for cars that impact of safety for other people, but to have nanny government laws really irks me, everybody seems to forget the risk compensation theory, which is well proven. Ooooh dont get me started

Yes fair enough but i want to be able to hear whats about me in years to come as well. I am in a well payed job, but i have to pass a stricked hearing test if i fail it`s the job centre. With electronic ear muffs you have no excuse`s.

very true B.GTS, hearing is a big factor with my work also, as well as my eyesight.

am i not right in saying the CPSA have now adopted a glasses must be worn ruling to all comps, and are there many clubs that dont enforce this rule ?? curious is i

to say being bullied by other authorities is a bit strong dont you think, its your eyesight and hearing, should it not be your responsability.

I voted no and no, although I always wear ear plugs and eye protection when clay shooting. When wildfowling I don't because I want to hear what is around me.

It is only common sense to wear ear and eye protection when clay shooting, I don't think it should be made law.

Don't get me started.... We are plagued by politicians who seem to think that we as a people are never better than when we are constrained on every side by rules and regulations backed by legal force. It is as if we were children in a nursery - not to be trusted, and always to be supervised and directed by our elders and betters (The Labour Party).

More and more petty regulations abound. Public services are tied up in government dictated targets, as if it was they, the government who knew all about doctoring, the suppression of crime, and education. Who are these people who dictate the conduct of every aspect of our lives? They are by and large career politicians, members of the majority party, graduates of the school of political correctness and NOTHING ELSE. Are they shooters? I doubt it.

The people who should decide whether eye protection, ear plugs, or orange vests should be worn, are the individual shooters. If you take your kids shooting, then as a parent you will need to decide how to keep them safe. Otherwise, it's none of your business what other people do. A club which may have action taken against it by an injured member, might want to impose a rigorous safety regime, but for the individual wandering about on private land, no one else should be dictating rules about what he wears.

I look at my castrated tom cat and wonder if we are all not all well on the way to being like him. Deprived of our balls.

Voted both no. I don't recall ever hearing about an accidental shooting whilst Deer stalking, thats not to say it probably hasnt happened. So I can see the advantage of having to wear a bright orange vest etc. after all, it protects all envolved.

As eye and ear protection, well I would say thats got to be down to personal choice, after all, it is you that takes the risk.

voted no on the flouro jackets as i dont think we get buck fever like they do in the usa where the target is anything that moves
