does she have clean licence? Are you prepared to pay a high excess? How many miles is she likely to actual do?

We moved all cars under Admiral, both kids now accumulate own no claims history.Be v careful with named drivers etc especially if your daughter is only 1 driving the car,the advice above is on thin ice if you do not use the car.

atb.

Don't think you read the prev post who was suggesting parent be added as named to daughters policy, nothing wrong weigh this even if never drive it. Its when parent insures and adds child as named but parent never drives it is an issue

Best getting onto one of the comparison sites, key in all her details and try various different cars to see which is the cheapest. Just because its a free car doesnt mean its going to be cheap to insure, the insurance companies may flag that particular make / model as a high risk.

You may find you`ll be better off selling the car and buying something else unfortunately.

I would suggest putting both you and your wife on as name drivers as well assuming you have clean licenses and no claims. I still put one of my parents on my insurance as a named driver as it pulls the premimum down I am 23 and been driving for 5 years !!!!, when i first started it was a few hundred quid difference and even now it can be about £50.00 difference with one of them on. Also try quotes at both Fully comp and 3rd party, and limit the mileage to say 5000 miles a year.

look into getting a smart box fitted ,this collects data on how the policy holder drives ie they need to keep to speed limits also the hours of driving are taking into consideration,it reduces the price of insurance the following year and gives a discounted price if installed i am led to believe.my son has just had this fitted but it only applies to certain cars he owns a 1.2 corsa.hope this helps .insurance is a joke it is a legalised scam imho .

Very true, ive 20 years NCB and been driving for 22 years. Even now, I put my 90 year old gran on my insurance for my 313hp Nissan 350z the other year and it dropped the premium from 900quid down to 650quid! Amazing but true!

Best advice would be to get a few quotes for other cars as my niece insures this mini for £761 on a 10 month bonus accelerator scheme. She is 19 and this is her first car. :good:

Nice car!

My first car was a 1972 Mini 850cc which cost me £20 to buy. Yes, £20. I spent another £100 on it getting it through its MOT and respraying it. Then the insurance company charged me nearly £500 to insure it 3rd party only. That was back in 1990!

Thats a good price, did she declare all the mods as there are a few non standard items on it.

My mate had his Defender nicked and they refused to pay out because although it had Defender alloys they were not standard on that model year.

Worth checking
