evo Posted October 30, 2012 Report Share Posted October 30, 2012 (edited) where do i start ?? , went out sat for a shoot over some decoys with my daystate huntsman classic,22 ,just thought i would give it a try, had 5 pigeons drop into my pattern and hit three of them , straight kills, so today i decided to pop back to one of my permissions with the same thing in mind,, i started by putting 4 flock decoys out infront of me and settled into some long grass on the edge of a hedgeline ,i was right in the corner of the field with a wood on my left and a hedge line behind me, lying on my stomach in the long grass with just the silencer sticking out aiming out towards the decoys. The pigeons seemed very skittish and were not landing but just flying over 10 to 20ft in the air , I had been there about an hour with none in my bag when as i,m lying down with my cheek on the gun i suddenly saw something move in the corner of my right eye ? OH MY GOD it was a female pheasant about 8ft to my right,,,it had come out the hedgeline and was walking along the edge of the long grass. My heart was now starting to pound its way out of my chest but i could not move incase i spooked it,,as i lay there motionless the pheasant decided to keep walking towards me,,i,m thinking "dont let it see your eyes" so decided to shut them for a moment (daft i know but true). I kept them shut ( for what seemed like an eternity but was probably only about 5 seconds )in the hope that it would just walk past and i could then carry on watching it,i had no intention of shooting it as i was not there for the pheasants i was out for the pigeons and had left my shotty in the cab,, On opening my eyes back up,,to my SHOCK the pheasant was at the end of my barrel 2 ft away stareing right at me,,i was totally frozen with exitement, both stareing at each other for about half a min with my heart now pounding on the outside of my chest when it suddenly decided to carry on with its stroll, I lay there watching it walk away to my left and off into the distance, Once it was out of sight i sat up and breathed a sigh of relief that i could now breath and how lucky was I to experience such a fantastic brilliant amazing thing as a pheasant at the end of my rifle stareing at me a truely memorable experience something i,ll remember for the rest of my life,,, has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them ?? would love to hear your stories,, Oh forgot,,,didn,t get any woodies as i decided after that to go and tell my buddies what had just happened what a fantastic day :good: Edited October 31, 2012 by evo Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

demonwolf444 Posted October 31, 2012 Report Share Posted October 31, 2012 Swimming in the river and a deer decided to join me! was swimming upstream ( like a running machine but for swimming ) and was just moving back to the shallower water, when i saw a roe doe at the far bank, i ducked under water up to my cheeks so only my eyes and the top of my head was showing. The deer wearily looked around for a good minute ( felt like an age ) and then continued to cross less than 15 yards up stream, right up to its neck crossing looking left and right all the time, Amazing. As it reached the bank i also moved to the bank and folowed it untill i ended up on a foot path, at which point i realised how cold i was and how i would answer the awkward questions of a dog walker while i stood there wearing my swimming trunks staring at a now empty field. Reece Posted October 31, 2012 Report Share Posted October 31, 2012 Never had an experience quite like that, but it is amazing what you see when out shooting, especially if you're wearing camouflage. silver pigeon 3 Posted October 31, 2012 Report Share Posted October 31, 2012 Last season while out on a morning flight a barn owl landed on an old fence post no more than 6 feet from me. It stayed there preening for a good 5 minutes before flying on. The dog had a brown pants moment a few days ago whilst out on the foreshore, we were settled in a shallow creek and the dogs head was just sticking up, we both heard a flaring of wings so turned to look behind as a big old crow was attempting to land on the dogs head, he wasn't overly impressed!! Cottonseed Posted October 31, 2012 Report Share Posted October 31, 2012 I was out with the .22 one winter's afternoon waiting for a rabbit and sitting at the base of a tree. I had the rifle pointing straight up and nearly fainted when a sparrowhawk flew straight at me, passing between the rifle barrel and my face. I wasn't in cammo, but had the hood on my jacket up. Since I've worn cammo I've had a wren perch on top of the moderator, a buzzard come within a few feet of me and a heron walk up to me and stare at me, which was a touch creepy.I used to knock cammo, but occasions like these can more than make up make up for a blank outing. brett1985 Posted November 1, 2012 Report Share Posted November 1, 2012 i was out shooting on the local golf course last year and had been there since about 5:15am. it had been a productive morning, with about 15 rabbits in the bag. the sun was shining and as i sat down to roll myself a fag, a group of deer came prancing along. one of them came about 10 feet away from me and just sat there looking at me. i smoked the whole fag and continued to sit there looking at this deer for about another 5 minutes before it turned round and just slowly wandered off. Salop Matt Posted November 1, 2012 Report Share Posted November 1, 2012 I remeber when i was about 13 i was out roost shooting in a wood for about the 5th saturday on the trott and had always been told no ground game and after being ther 2 hours or so I had a fox walk though the wood and it stopped withing 6 feet of me and just stood looking at me a calm as you like ! I raised the gun to it to if it would scare it but it didnt so in the end i i stamped my foot and shouted at it and it just jogged off with no real hurry or worry about the shots in the wood ! I guess it was looking for any birds we hadnt managed to recover and after doing this every week for around 5 weeks got used to the idea that the sound of shooting ment free meals to be found in the wood ! pigeon pete Posted November 1, 2012 Report Share Posted November 1, 2012 my dad was shooting hares while sat in the hedge and a fox came out the hedge 1m away and it was watching the hares as well ,after about a min it dad dident want the fox to spook the hares so dad looked at the fox and said "good morning " he said the fox jumped a mile and was off like a rocket ,he still tells me this story every time we talk about shooting lol .my m8 and i have had a hare run straight at us and as he got with in 1m i also said "morning" it stopped dead looked for a few seconds then did a 180 and leg-ed it ,then we had a deer walk towards us ,we were both stood with full camo and i said to my m8 keep still and dont make a sound ,the wind was in are face and it wont see us ,it got 8 foot away and i then gave it the "good afternoon sir" lol the thing nearly had a heart attack ,you will always remember this and tell the story many times ,nice one m8 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

evo Posted November 2, 2012 Author Report Share Posted November 2, 2012 it truely is amazing what you see when out fishing and shooting,, that experience i had will stay with me for years to come,as said even tho i didn,t shoot anything it truely was a most memorable day,every time i tell the story i cant stop laughing at the face on the pheasant as we both stared at each other,,totally amazing to be so close to a wild animal,just hope i,ll be able to top that experience one day but i doubt it ,,thanks for the replies lads enjoyed reading your experiences ,,,cheers evo Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
