rapid12
hi, not sure if anyone will know this, i have oil powered central heating but it drinks oil like a f1 car, one of the farmers on my shoot says i could run it on diesel and not just oil,. if so could i just mix in the diesel with the oil in the main tank or should i run it down first. i am paying around 53pence a litre for the oil but have been offered some diesel next to nothing. cheers. ps, for any experts its a (canray5) boiler. Blackpowder
Some old oil burners run on diesel oil which I think would mean a change in nozzle size. This was only suitable for installations with traditional flues ie exiting above roof levels, diesel cant be used in balanced flue installations. gixer1
I would be wary on this one as boilers run on kerosene which is more combustable than diesel - your bolier will be jetted for the kerosene which is less viscous than diesel - the viscosity is measured in seconds to run through a set restriction or funnel - diesel is like 35 and kerosene is about 28... You could ruin your boiler. Regards, Gixer
Paul223
Run low and re jet to 35 sec, my father in law used to do the same with "free" fuel from the on site tank, don't think it cost him anything to heat his house for many years
rapid12
cheers for your replys, think i will have an expert have a look as the diesel is next to nothing and not limited to amounts. if this is capable then my heating bills will be nothing.. thanks. Catweazle
Sell the diesel and buy oil.
Bleeh
Sell the diesel and buy oil. I'm guessing this isn't the sort of diesel you can sell! Anyways, what would you even risk this, the savings (if any) would be miniumal and you've anything from an oil tank to boiler at risk? I don't understand why you'd wager thousands of pounds worth of central heating to save a few penies.
aga man
the manufacturers instructions will determine whether it can be run on gas oil {red diesel}. the oil nozzle and the oil pump pressure will need changing and the boiler re-commisioning. certain limitations to this been done exist and blackpowder is pretty close to the mark. like i said the MI will tell you for sure. the documents can be found on the worcester website under discontinued products. as worcester took over camray boulter some years back. Diceman
Our c/h runs on red off the same tank as the forklift, manitou etc. Mind you, father in law bought the boiler second hand in 1964. Sounds like a jet engine when it is running, and drinks fuel at about the same rate.
