Hi mate, welcome to the forum.

I'm sure there will be many folk along soon with their own opinions, most of them based on good reason, however I would say for that kind of money you would get a nice AYA Yeoman, none ejector. A lovely gun, respected manufacturer and will give you years of service.

Keep an eye out in the Trading post section of the forum, or have a look on Gun Trader, www.guntrader.co.uk

Your profile doesn't say where you are located, however there was a bargain of an AYA up near me in Ashington, Northumberland the other day for £100.

Kind regards

Jonathan

Welcome to PigeonWatch.

If you look in the sales section you will find lots of guns in your price range. There is plenty of bargains to be had and without actually trying out a gun who knows what shall suit you. Everyone is different.

Welcome to the site. I am not sure if new members can purchase anything off the site until you have been a memeber for some time (I may be wrong) but a good starter gun would be an AYA Yeoman or similar. Keep it simple and there is not a lot more simpler that the Yeoman.

Wrabbitbosher does have some good priced guns if you could contact him.

I assume from your post you have'nt got your ticket yet. There are a few things you will have to do before your FEO visits. They will check everything. If you have everything done then they will not need to come back. However my FEO did ask me to sign the certificate in front of him. FAC came in the post though.

You will need to have your cabinet installed before your home visit. Make sure it cannot be seen from outside. ie through a window in a bungalow. Ideally fixed to a masonry wall with rawlbolts. If in stud walls then it must be fixed to the studs and floor with something like coach screws. Give it a good tug as they will do this.

Cabinet out of the way, possibly in a cupboard somewhere, out of sight to casual visitors. Spare keys hidden elsewhere in the house. HID must not know where they are otherwise she will have access to the cabinet.

Fit 5 lever locks to all exterior doors. They also like concealed bolts as well though not compulsory.

Locks on all downstairs windows. Don't leave the keys in the locks!! Don't forget any patio doors. Best bet with these is to put a lock on diagonally opposite corners. Remember little sticky fingers often use a spade to lift the door off when forcing entry.

Make sure your cartridge box is fixed down. Don't use a carrier bag under the bed. Essex prefer carts to be storred separate from the gun.

As my FEO said when he visited, they don't want you to live in Fort Knox but just to make it as difficult as possible. If they are that desparate to get in, they will.

Be honest and truthful at the interview. They are not ogres and they are there to help. It may be helpfull to have a few questions written down to ask him/her when they come.

Hope this has been helpful. Make sure you have room for expansion of your cabinet as it's very addictive and pretty soon you will be wanting to get a bigger cabinet for the rest of the toys.

Once you have made the bed for your new toy then the best thing you can do is to find a good local clay ground and get a couple of lessons. Ask their advise. Don't be in too much of a hurry to part with your spondulics. Try as many as you can before making a decision. You have to feel comfortable with the gun you choose be it new or second hand. Have fun!!!!
