Very interesting read thanks for that Bloke.

Dave try the foam ear plugs to stop water going in your ear when you shower. I find it helps a lot.

I'll give that a try thanks mate!:)

I wear a hearing aid in one ear, have hearing loss to both ears, Supposed to help the tinnitus but does not in my case. Soon as the ENT guy found out i went shooting he blamed that, but over the years i've worked next to loud machinery, discos etc., none of it helps and in those days health and safety was only a notice on the wall.

Like already said it's best to try and ignore it, although it's there all the time if i think about it, sometimes it doesn't bother me.

EDIT TO ADD - always wear protection when shotgun shooting, don't need it with the .22 lr with subs, but what about the .17 hmr ?

doc said it looks like i have a infection and my ear canal is full of fluid, the shotgun blast must of pushed the air out of my ear and filled it with fluid.. im still skeptical he said just take pain killers and ibuprofen and inhale steam? could take a few weeks to sort its self out.. said my ear drum looks well dull... waiting game all over again

Inca it sounds more like you have a bad ear infection.

I hope it is has a course of Amoxicillin Antibiotic will shift it.

Good luck.

I can`t believe your doc has not put you on a course of Antibiotic.

Only Antibiotics will shift an ear infection.

I believe the NHS are under new guidelines to curb the willy nillie prescribing of antibiotics for common complaints as it seems our bodies have started to become so used to them that the ailments are becoming in turn used to them and adapting to be impervious to them.

Yes but it is not willy nillie he has an ear INFECTION that can only be shifted with Antibiotics.

An ear infection needs treating with antibiotics before it gets that bad he as permanent damage.

A bad ear infection can leave you with tinitus. banging headaches. poor judgment (ie) driving a car.

Have you actually ever had a bad ear infection?

I have, and it was a series of bad ear infections that did the permanent damage in 2004, confirmed by the surgeon, resulting in 3 sets of grommets, followed by T-tubes through my eardrum for nearly 4 years, and 6 months continuous antibiotics, not comfy :( . The resulting vertigo, tinnitus and dizziness combination was why they took my driving licence away, it affects your ability to drive in a BIG way. IF you have an middle/inner ear infection, that would result in a large amount of fluid inside the inner ear, which thickens and cannot drain, what they call 'glue ear' in little kids, the advised treatment for that is antibiotics, or the resulting pressure can rupture your eardrum. As for GPs not Px antibiotics for this, last time I got an ear infection (about 6 months ago), antibiotics were prescribed immediately. If the fluid is in the outer ear, it should drain away just by syringing/draining the ear, but it is usually wax in the outer ear, not fluid. Hope it all improves soon.

Don't get your knickers in a twist love! My question was a quip based on your last sentence relating to the consequences of an ear infection. Obviously you missed the joke. Must be the wrong time of the month!

had mine 30-40 years, you condition yourself to live with it and only hear it when YOU allow it. if you dont, well people have gone insane with it. some have committed suicide. i got mine driving heavy earthmoving machinery without ear protection.

Had tinnitus since a very early age. I remember my mother telling me it was "the sound of silence". That was about sixty years ago!

It got worse when I took up shooting in the 1960s, and after I went to sleep on a steam turbine at Hams Hall Power Station. As I type this, it still is as bad. You get to live with it. Usually worse when you are stressed out. Immerse yourself in something very interesting. Examples: I built a Mini in the 1970s! Home loading. I taught myself Czech! Became a father! Etc.

I sympathise but hey, there'll be more good days than bad!
