thepasty
Hi Guys Has anyone got experience of this shotgun? How do/did you find it? Any bad points? I'm putting in a variation for a FAC shotgun and having 2 traditional type rifles I'd quite like to get a more modern type look. I'll be using it for winged vermin and clays. I've shot a Hatsan Escort a fair bit and think they're very good for the money. cheers Steve Edited December 4, 2012 by thepasty
al4x
the main bad point is it will make you look an idiot if you take it in the field If you walt about in your PJ's doing tactical stuff it will be fine For clays though it should get you refused entry to most grounds
gixer1
I had one but I kept catching it in my camo head band every time i tried to pose with it and the lady at the post office didn't like it..... the other problem is that unless you do PSG as soon as you show this gun to your FEO he will march you off to prison, although from the avatar I see you have the head gear for the visit to the post office anyway.. thepasty
I'm surprised by such comments. Its a shotgun that looks a bit different to the traditional style, it does exactly the same thing as any other FAC shotgun... but because it has a pistol grip (which I need as I have a shagged wrist), isnt wood and is black that makes it unacceptable? I stopped caring about what I looked like in my teens, its something you grow out of, or most of us do anyways
Breastman
Ignore the not-so-smart ***** Steve, unfortunately there is a small core of HILARIOUS gents on this forum who cack their pants when ever they see anything that doesn't have a blued barrel, walnut furniture or looks like it could've been made earlier than 1950 . The MPA is decent for the money, however loading the thing, just like the old one is almost an art form. For some unknown reason there is a 'prong' (see bottom left below) within the shell lifter which must be depressed before the lifter will move. When you've got plenty of time to load the gun this isn't really an issue, but its a handicap when it comes to TSG/PSG. The other think to look out for is 'overloading' the gun. Once the magazine is full, if you then try to put in another round (because you've forgot to count the number of carts etc), the cartridge that won't fit can spring back and become lodged between the lifter and prong, which can be a nightmare to sort out. Otherwise a decent gun Hope this helped Edited December 6, 2012 by Zapp
al4x
So breastman you reckon it would be fine taken to any clayground for a round of sporting?
Breastman
Yep, i regularly take my FAC Benelli M2 and Supernova to clay grounds and i've never had any problems
phaedra1106
I have one and have used it for both PSG and clays, only problem I have is that it's a bit stiff to feed but as it's new that should ease with use. After using the sights for PSG it takes a bit of effort to not use them when shooting clays. Overall I'm pleased with it and at just over £400 it's a bargain. thepasty
Thanks for the helpful responces Breatman & phaedra1106, thats exactly the kind of info I was after. We have our own clay traps so I'm unlikely to refuse myself entry to our own shoot... never say never tho and BOO HISS at the other two for what came across as narrow minded over opinionated tripe. phaedra1106 is the rear site removable? borich
What's the point of the pistol grip?
Breastman
Pistol grips give far better control of guns and allow you to carry them for longer periods of time more comfortably. Hence why all non-sporting guns have them now, and why even sporting guns have a stock/palm swell leaning towards a pistol grip, rather than a traditional straight stock
borich
I fancy this gun as well. Would be used for rough shooting and maybe the odd clay.
thepasty
I find a pistol grip is a more comfortable natural grip putting less twist and strain on my wrist allowing me to shoot for longer periods at a time. Hi, it's not what you shoot it's how you break the clays is the point so surely any shotgun will be fine at any clay grounds I use this pimped up remington 870 Wingmaster with its ATI Talon tactical stock ,it certainly turns heads at the grounds I visit especially when I do DTL Edited December 4, 2012 by Willpoon

al4x
You mean you don't require a pistol grip to hit clays Ed?
EdSolomons
I've heard you can hit them with anything "they all do the same job" :-)
bravo2
I am interested in the replies saying that they shoot clays with a FAC shotgun - I have a FAC semi-auto but it is clear on my licence that it is only for vermin control, so I have never taken it to a clay ground, which is a shame as I would like to get a better feel for it by breaking some clays. Can I get 'clay tgt shooting' added to my FAC? it is up for renewal right now as it happens and if the clay grounds don't mind and the police will allow it then I'll definitely add it to the renewal forms. I am assuming if it isn't on your FAC and you shoot clays with it then you are breaking the law. PS - it isn't about looking pretty - if it works for you go for it. gazzthompson
I have an escort, Though its not an MP. I wanted something different (And cheap) and liked the look of the pistol grip but did not like the sights (Seems more usable for slug shot) as it blocks the sight picture somewhat, So i brought a normal escort and brought the MP stock and perfect! See here: http://i.imgur.com/l4o9j.jpg If a clay ground didn't like it, ****** them ill take my money else where. I shoot what i want to shoot and i find fun shooting, My 870 isn't the most practical but its bloody good fun and i shoot to have fun. @Thepasty: Check the sights in person before you buy it, might not like them! By purchasing the stock and normal escort i got the both of best worlds, Clean it and keep the piston clean and it will run fine! thepasty
looks good Gaz, how much was the mp stock? I've been reliably informed by two well known local gun smiths that our firearms department see clays covered by "winged vermin".

I reckon you could argue it under 'zeroing' though, since the clay ground effectively gives permission for you to shoot on their land and you are using your firearm on clay tgts in order to check the aim..... sounds like 'zeroing weapon on land which you have permission to shoot'
