Mr-Sheen
Good evening all, The fore end on my semi auto keeps coming loose after around 15-20 shots as the screw cap on the end unwinds itself. Has anybody else ever experienced this problem and if so is there anything i can do about it? its really starting to get on my tits now! ATB Tom. al4x
Silly question but how tight are you doing it up?
bruno22rf
Dont most of these have a captive ball bearing in them that "ratchets" against serrated disc on the fore-end?
Mr-Sheen
Well i am doing it up as tight as possible and yes it does have a ratchet in it.... No matter how tight i do it it seems to come loose after firing so is there anything that can be done?
P~MX
try some grease on the barrings - that should help it stay tight
kent
Sounds like the cap is done in, they are prone to corrosion and many fail to pay this part any attention during maintenance. if you can test it with one off another functioning gun of the same model to confirm then replace it when you know for sure
Big Mat
What gun is it? If its an remington 11-87 i've got a cap that i took off when i fitted a sling stud one which i know works fine that you are welcome to!
BlaserF3
Have you ever bothered to clean the cap? On Beretta 391's if you don't clean them they lock solid, then you cannot tighten it up.
Gordon R
I would clean the "ratchet" ball bearing and make sure it is spring loaded and working freely. I would then clean the serrations or even file them a little deeper. It is possible they have worn down.
Mr-Sheen
The gun is a remmington versa max and its has barely fired a thousand shots. Thing is it has been cleaned thoroughly after every use regardless of how many cartridges it gets through it so surely it shouldnt have worn out by now? Also what grease would you recommend? Try some Threadlock or a blob of weld. that should stop it coming loose!

ATB Tom Take it back to the dealer, let Edgar Bros. repair it. Mr-Sheen
Just seen the posts on the forum and it has exactly the same problem as mine. sounds like its to do with the old cap so il take it to the dealer and ask them to order me the new parts. Considering the gun was brought new, this should be done free of charge shouldnt it?
