Markbrowning
Hello all, Currently have a Browning B725 U/O for my clay shooting. I am currently in the market for a semi-auto field gun. I am either going all out and getting a 24" Benelli M2 or a cheap and cheerful Hatsan escort. A deciding factor is what is available for the escort..... does anyone know of a enlarged bolt handles that fit the escort, side saddles etc? I want the M2...but what is stopping me the its THREE times the price, for something I will only use now and again. However I am a massive subscriber to "Buy once, buy right" Thoughts and comments please Thank you, Mark
Mikaveli
Enlarged cocking handles for the escort are about 15 quid. They have a dovetail mount on the top of the action so you can fit scopes, rails and red dots etc. Pistol grip stocks are available for about 60 notes - delivery takes a while though
tweedledee
buy the m2
Markbrowning
Do you know where to purchase the enlarged cocking handle? What shop does them, when I spoke to Edger Brothers they didn't seem to think there was one. I have no Interest in a pistol grip stock, am happy with a normal stock. That's another annoying factor, all my current accessories are for picatinny rather than dovetail. I like with the benelli that Mesa tactical and nordic components are readily available
gazzthompson
I brought the basic escort, and got the best off the MP. I purchases the stock, Forend and charging handle on the MP and put it on my normal escort for a hybrid without the MP sights (Which seem more suitable for slugs). That's another annoying factor, all my current accessories are for picatinny rather than dovetail. I like with the benelli that Mesa tactical and nordic components are readily available Just go to your local Hatsan dealer and ask them to order a spare 'MPA' cocking handle. I'd recommend one for any disciple - so much easier on the hands if you're loading and unloading often. You can get dovetail to picatinny adapters off fleebay for pence, so that's no worry. How much shooting you're doing and how much you want to spend will make the decision for you for Benelli vs. Hatsan. You should be able to find an Escort PS, fit your cocking handle and a picatinny rail for a grand total of about £400 - £430. Brand new. A Benelli is the better gun, but as you've said - you're gonna be looking at around £1100 for one. If you're going to get through thousands of carts each year, or always shoot heavier loads (40g plus) - buy the Benelli.

Markbrowning
Thanks for all your help guys. So I went to a dealer the other day to look at the both in person. I thought going would make up my mind one way or the other. It didn't. The Benelli is hands down is so much better, look and finish on it is amazing. However it all boils down to price, the LOP of the M2 will a bit short so would need another recoil pad at £80, then plus any accessories I would buy for it looking at £1300-1500! I just can't justify that at the moment, yes if it were my main gun but its just an occasional use field gun. At the moment I don't like taking my Browning in the field for fear of damaging it. I feel if I spent that much on the M2 I would be just as protective on it. So I'm leaning towards the Hatsan. It is what it is, cheap and cheerful. I like idea that I wouldn't really care for it and view it as almost disposable. Not bothered if it get dropped into a muddy ditch or pulled through brambles etc. It actually shouldered really nicely and the newer stock is quite comfy. So I think I will order one of these with a MPA handle and fore-end and still have plenty of change left to go shooting with it. If I don't get on well with it, I will and can just buy the M2 at a later date. But fingers crossed it will do fine for the job intended. bicykillgaz
My 20g pump has a standard 11mm rail like most air rifle or rimfires pretty sure the 12g has the same mate
marklestrange
The chap in the shop said 'it looks like 15mm' but that isn't that helpful. Is yours an Escort Magnum new type?
bicykillgaz
Yes mate it's the gen2 type escort magnum with trio pad
bicykillgaz
I've tried some scope mounts on mine and it is definitely same rail as my cz452 so 11mm or thereabouts looked quite cool with a 6x44 on top but not sure how practical to shoot.
