camokid
hi lads well this is a pic of my Christmas deer that was late . i went out twice before Christmas to try my luck for a deer but it just didn't happen my luck changed yesterday. i went to a patch where i new there where deer moving. my plan was to sit on the top of the hill so i had a good view of the bottom field and the cover it offered. i new the hunt had run through the land the day before and i was worried that they may have upset what deer was around. it was not until about the last 10 minuets of light when 4 roe append in the bottom corner all doe's at last knocking my luck was in i chose the deer i wanted the one at the front of the pack and took my shot she jumped into the air ans ran 20 yards before a good crash. i was really pleased with her she was in fine condition and fighting fit. here are a couple of pics of the end result here was my view not the best pic a cut her bum off and the tea many thanks Edited January 2, 2013 by camokid
Loki
Hi Thanks for sharing the 'walkabout' and your success. The packages of meat look professional - may I ask where the butchering skills were acquired or is this a self-taught skill? L
camokid
to be honest its a DIY job in the garden and kitchen im not a butcher i have just picked bits up from the net and dvd thanks

Cheers Mark i dot really eat liver but i found a nice pate recipe and fancied a go so this time i put the liver to one side but like the dumbo i am i forgot to pick it back up after i had finished. is the bracket that the deer is hanging from home made ? yes it is.. its just a hanging basket bracket from bq and a steel rod that i bent to shape it has held many a deer
FOXHUNTER1
Pie looks lovely Just wondering why you dont remove the head and feet first ? It makes the job a little bit easier.
camokid
front feet come off first the head i leave till last just to retain the blood a little. i have to clean the patio down less mess the better. i pull the hide down to the neck then cut the lot off. after portioning the deer the back feet get cut from the hunch. ....oh the pie was venison and sausage and dam was it good
