HotShot!
Yeh everyone is. Ducks are everywhere, birds are wandering. Ment to have a few cold nights this week. Fingers crossed !
beerdeor
Yep shocking returns this year need some cold weather but in reality I think the season is over really
Martin g
Shoot I help out on have had the total opposite. The birds havn't wondered off and been where we wanted them..
kennett
We have had the same problem, cold wet weekend last week and the woods and covers were full of birds, yesterday on a warm sunny day and the drives were a lot quieter with birds out sunning themselves, They have never really been hungry this year either. Im looking at probably no better than 30% returns
scimitar
There's supposed to be a drop in temperature soon. So keep plenty food in the feeders and hopefully some frosts will bring the birds back in. Don't forget to keep on top of dogging in and fox control. Gadge-it
I,am afraid the wet weather is still on the way,but also looking at the state of all the crops it looks like the price of things will go though the roof nexted year
magman
im betting the cold weather comes to late, you watch the temperature fall in feb and plenty of birds about at the wrong time
al4x
It's too late now to make much difference, we are touching 70% return and are finished unless we have a walk up day that's poults with a relatively low stocking density. Wandering hasn't been bad of ours but we have definitely benefitted by others birds moving in.

"Wandering hasn't been bad of ours but we have definitely benefitted by others birds moving in" LOL tag your birds next season then find out what your 'real' % return is. al4x
real % is what you shoot ours are different to next doors so we know we have done pretty well out of what we have put down and there are still a fair few that are very clued up still about. Thats excluding wild stock on the ground and partridges which our land supports well. We could have made more of it and haven't stopped next doors keeper dogging in off our ground which we will next year. On a shoot that used to put down 1250 and loose most of them we have put down a third the number and shot half their return so really less is more in some cases. Its given something to build on anyway and as we improve woodland more we may have a shoot we can keep the birds later in the season. We knew this was an issue with the land hence getting the birds down early and shooting early season, had we tried to shoot many in January we would have struggled as the woodland just isn't warm enough
Blackpowder
We shot a syndicate day on Saturday for a very disappointing 22 pheasants. The best drive only showing the number of birds we would expect on the poorest. Our numbers are well down with a similair situation also on our Association Shoot. MattSoanes
We released 900 pheasants,150 Red legs and 100 Mallard. We have shot 4 days starting from the 10th Nov, with bags of 113, 126 , 99 and 140. Our returns so far are, 382 pheasants, 41 Red legs and 99 Mallard + Various. Not sure what that works out too percentage wise but we are shooting again this Saturday, and then the beaters day on the 26th.With what is still about I would like to think we could add another 150-200 to that total. lee-kinsman
Our shoot up in Lancashire has been shocking. We'd be lucky if we get over a 20%. A very confused and difficult year. Birds not flying sitting so tight that some have been retrieved un shot and all have nearly been pretty much stood on to flush them.
contrysports
I wounder on hows poeple duck shoots are doing, wheather they,ve been ok i suspect inland duck shooters hsve benifited a great deal however on the mud and marshes all the birds have gone inland onto the small splashes.
