Event tyres (not the mobile fitters) do a Grabber AT2 copy that's pretty cheap. I have no experience of them just noticed them whilst sorting out replacement tyres for my Disco. I've used Camskill recently and found their service superb.

Has it had the king pins done.

Cambelt?

Not sure on either. It has service history last service was 2 years ago but has only done 400 miles since. Passed MOT last friday with no advisories. Just need to do it up a bit now for offroading. Nothing major as it is still my main car!

Thanks for the suggestion... will check it out!

Yer. Theres two on the back and two on the front. Of a jimny

Tow balls are brittal and dont take much to break when trying to snatch a stuck 4x4

I wouldnt want to be snaching on a strap around the tow bar incase it twisted the end of the chassi

By snaching i mean straping up to stuck 4x4 and setting off driving with a loose strap to pull them out. obviosly when the rope tightens theres a fair amount of force in it.

Why do you want the brake lights on a switch ?

If you have an accident and insurance company find out you have a switch on brake lights they may thin that you are into insurance fraud, crash for cash.

Yeah, brake lights on a switch is absolutely illegal, too. It might not get noticed, but if it ever was found out, you'd be up to your eyeballs

Im pretty sure its not illegal. A gamekeeper i know has a 2 way switch on the dashboard of his discovery. 'On' makes the brake lights work as they should with the pedal etc... and 'off' just disables them until the switch is returned to on. His disco has passed its last 9 years MOT's with it so can't see how it is illegal. As for the purpose, its for lamping so when you break you don't illuminate the field.

The laws on MOt's change year to year, also an MOT is not proof a car is road worthy, if you had a serious accident. the insurance company and police would have a field day with you.

As for recovery point make sure you are using actual recovery points and not tie down points. As these are not recomened to recover with. Always make sure you pull inline with the chasis. Using tow strops to form a bridle if possible. All depending on how stuck you are.

It's absolutely illegal, because what various items do, and when, is part of the 'type description'.

The type description states that when the brake pedal is pressed, the brakes are applied, what happens with the ABS (if fitted), the brake bias, and that the brake lights come on - some newer cars have lights that progressively become brighter the harder the pedal is pressed.

The point I'm making is that it might well pass an MOT test with the brakes switched to 'normal'.

However, if he was involved in an accident, and especially if it was a rear shunt, and if the vehicle was inspected for some reason and that switch was found, it would be the same as having an undeclared engine chip as far as the insurance was concerned. In addition, you'd find VOSA/police would be involved quite rapidly.

Not where I would want to be, personally, especially as a SGC/FAC holder

Doing that to the brake lights would be illegal, but if the switch is well out of the way so nobody notices it, who is going to know? It's easy enough to pull the rear light fuses out if the brake lights really are an issue.
