Royboy
Hi I want to use my late fathers webley for the beaters day next week. It's more of a walked up day so this gun is ideal seen as it's light. But the problem is it kicks like a mule !! What cartridges would anybody recommend that are light on the shoulder ? The Essex Hunter
What is it proofed for? I would drop it in to a GOOD gun shop and they should be able to check it with a bore gauge very quickly. Take it apart and have a look at what is stamped on the 2 flat surfaces on the underneath of both barrels. You must have fired it as it kicks like a mule…..!! You put heavy rounds in a light gun….. You put heavy rounds in a light gun that does not fit you…. Just firing a gun with out having to concentrate on a target you might not have lent in to the gun…. mudpatten
Eley Impax. You might also want to check that the action is tight. Every Webley 700 ever made will eventually shoot loose and since it does not have a renewable hinge pin, tightening it in any meaningful or lasting way, is difficult if it`s had a lot of use. matone
65 or 67 mm 1 oz loads even if it`s got 70mm chambers.
Redgum
Cracking little gun but don't go heavy on the load, they were not made to shoot 32gr loads. I inherited my fathers box lock ejector and it was suffering a bit of a headache from the homeloads he put through it, fixed now though. I will find a picture of it. Redgum
I was ripped off the first time with the headache repair, charged me 90 quid just to peen the hook, robbing bustards. Had it repair properly in end, think they rebuilt with weld.
browning123
Lovely guns the Webley 700, I remember buying a mint one in the mid seventies from a chap retiring from shooting for £50.00!
Royboy
This is a early 70s model. Like brand new its been shot so little. FAO came round the other day and couldnt believe how tidy it was ! My dad told me a story years ago when he was out pigeon shooting the lever cracked his thumb nail it kicked so much. I shot 30g clear pigeon through it last year and my shoulder was killing after a afternoon roost shooting but I was knocking them down no problem ! I was thinking maybe 28g VIP ??
