Cranfield
I use a 12V 7AH battery, like most things , shopping around gets the best price. Try the UK Shootwarehouse link at the top of the page.

Heppy1148
Just be aware that if you are going to get a motor bike battery for the same job, make sure you get a dry cell battery(rechargable obviously), DO NOT get a wet cell bty (with fluid-electrolite) as when you put it in your kit bag to carry to your field it WILL leak. Yes i was the fool who did it and ruined some kit Yes i know!! No comments ta!!
Highlander
Personally I don’t think a 7AH battery lasts long enough. I believe most magnets draw about 2 amps per hour so a 7AH will only last about 3-4 hours. Techies on here might correct me if I’m wrong as electrics isn’t my strong point but whatever they don’t last for a full day in the field. Mine 18AH. heweyvts
Hi, Not sure what the ratings on it are but I use a Car Battery with carry handle. Halfords do a 3 year guatantee so if it play's up just take it back and exchange it.
Cranfield
I have a Pinewood rotary and the 12V 7AH runs it for at least 8 hours. It has never run out on me during a shooting day. Which rotary you are using can make a difference, I have been told.
pin
Without getting too technical, depends on the motor used, how the speed controller works and how "loaded" the arms are (wind resistance). PWM speed controllers are more efficient and will end up drawing less current than the older and cheaper resistive types. Its worth checking by hand that the arms rotate smoothly, any fouling will mean the motor working harder and using more juice.

Highlander I use a 12volt 7AH battery on my magnet's i have two and have shot from 8am in summertime till nearly dark app 12hours and the battery has still been going strong. If yours only lasts 3-4 hrs i would get a new decent magnet......

chrish
I reckon that 7Ah is fine for a modern rotary. Try having a look at Maplins for the dry cell batteries, much cheaper than buying from a shooting supplier.

taffygun
I've used the same 7ah batteries with same result as above 4hrs or so.....So I went for a 12v 17.2ah cyclic app battery and that lasts around 12hrs, bearing in mind that my magnet is a heavy one and it is home made.... The 17.2 batteries are not that much bigger/heavier than 7ah and i'm picking them up for £22 a pop at the moment.... :(
