Beretta06
Matty, do you mean third party type insurance, or insurance against damage/theft of guns. If you mean the first, BASC membership (or CPSA, Countryside Alliance or similar) provide insurance as part of their membership costs. subsonicnat
£66 for the year with BASC not a lot of money One of the reasons i joined BASC is they seem to be the voice of shooting Yes they are very good, they always remember to put the prices up every year, it is getting a farce with them, people are struggling one way or another, what does BASC Do: they put the prices up to remind you of how things are: I am really impressed, note the letters you get this year (Personal) trying to make out its them that run the countryside and wildfowling groups: L O B. If someone just wants to be covered by insurance then they may aswell just join the NGO but they do not have much power or members to do anything if the goverment decided to make some changes For me its also about securing shooting in the future the only ones with the members and clout are BASC or Countryside Alliance BASC £66 Countryside Alliance £62 NGO £40 The extra £26 is well worth it for me

David BASC
For information, subsonic cat, the last time BASC had a price change was in 2010, when some membership rates went up and some went down... we also introduced concessions for people on Job Seekers and for members of the Armed forces… To the best of my knowledge, most of the other associations mentioned have all had a price increase this year. But BASC has kept its fees the same. As with any insurance check the wording of the policy. Some of the organisations mentioned above or example put a £250 excess on property damage claims (the most common type), or don’t insure you if you are beating or picking up, and some will only respond if you have no other insurance place. Some won’t cover your gun if you lend it to someone else. None of the above restrictions apply to the BASC policy But ultimately join the association that fits you best, there are plenty to choose from and they all offer different services and benefits. al4x
some also put excesses on damage to shoot vehicles or don't cover you and similar so always read the wording well you will be surprised how some of the most likely accidents aren't covered or have reasonably high excesses. David BASC
Very true! We had a spate of claims from members who had driven up to their pegs…got out and walked 20 -30 yards to their peg, shot the drive, and then turned (surprised?!) to see their motors covered with dents! So yes, if you park your car where it’s blindingly obvious the shot birds are going to fall we will not honour the first £1000 of the claim! Best wishes David I can only assume you are a BASC Rep: . I know not so long back they had a 5 Year Plan, turned out to be more than 5 years, You may quote on this if you like David:??.. Even the Wild fowling clubs were starting to look at how much the prices were going up: Hence I suppose the Letters that are going out to individual members of clubs to Back BASC up, if anybody at the meetings has a whine about it: I can quote the letter I have received in the last 2 weeks to this affect: Read Between the lines guys: Prices for Wild Fowling are very fair, in comparison, Clubs are having to hold back their Club increases because of the said fact: If you take the £66 out of the Club equation , Wild fowling clubs get very little off their Members: Each to his own of course, but if they do not listen to the voice of reason and let clubs try to catch up, their will be no clubs to ask for their support: This is NOT a moan at you but in General::: PS: its Not Cat. it is NAT. David BASC
Morning, Firstly, sincere apologies about the misspelling of your moniker! Yes I do work for BASC and I would never hide that fact. Not to sure what you mean about the 5 year plan, most businesses have a forward plan? I suspect, but correct me if I am wrong, the letter you refer to is one from me to club members asking them to get in touch with their local regional team if they want us to come to the club AGM (or for that matter any other meeting) to discuss any BASC or shooting related issue. What’s wrong with asking if members would like to meet us at club level to discuss the services we offer and to see if there is anything more we can do to help? As you say 'if they do not listen...' well we are asking to meet so we can discuss and listen, will you be getting in touch with your local BASC office and asknig them to come along to meet the club? We would be more than happy to. The fee for club members is £56, not £66 by the way. David
subsonicnat
But the 5 year Plan lasted 7 years to my knowledge, before the brakes went on: When I asked at the club meeting why they were Still going up BASC Fees, I was Told it was probably an ongoing thing: Clubs were starting to moan::: I thought that was funny when a member said £66:00: it was £56:: When I last claimed my Double fee`s back it was £56:00 I`ll Just Quote if you don`t mind: ""We Trust that you will all decide to renew your GROUP Membership Of BASC,,,, ""Remember your BASC Membership package comes as PART of your Membership of the ************& *************""":::: it reads to me<<<<< ,,:: That you Could not be a Member,, Unless you were in BASC:?: My mate say`s it reads the same to him::: Thanks for Reply David.. David BASC
Not at all sure what your point re the 5 year plan is? Medium term business plans are subject to change depending on circumstances. Its is a rule of affiliation to BASC, that members of the club must become and remain members of BASC, so if you are a member of XYZ wildfowling club you must be a member of BASC. And we are writing to individual club members prior to their club AGM to let them all know that BASC is here to help and willing to come to meetings, that’s all. Best wishes David
