Firefox 2

I have been using Firefox for about a month and am very pleased with it.

Having no spellchecker was a nuisance, but version 2 has one.

Martin, I was sick of the message, "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close".

and a few other problems with hang ups etc.

Firefox has been trouble free, so far. (insert fingers crossed smilie here). :/

Firefox prevents a lot of virus intrusions, and spyware programs that watch your surfing habbits for advertising. Tehse are built into websites, and will not function with Firefox.

Firefox runs quicker, no silly errors as said above, and also less popups I find. :/

Converted last year, will never go back. Microsoft is so full of spyware now :/

Just a random bit of info for those considering switching..

Mozilla foundation have deliberately kept the core of Firefox small, choosing to allow community developers to make "addons" to provide further functionality rather than making the actual browser itself too bloated and complex (rather like another popular I could mention :/

Go to the Tools menu, choose "Add-ons". This takes you into the Add-ons manager. You can see which you have installed, enable/disable and uninstall them as you need. The bottom right of that manager has a "Find Updates" button, which will check to see if someone has released an updated version of any of the addons you have installed, extremely useful. To the right of that, in the bottom right hand corner there is a blue link "Get extensions" which will take you to the index page which lists them all by category. Select the one you want, click install and the Add-ons manager will tell you what you need to do.

An example which is worth trying for everyone is https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/26/ This replaces the download window that pops up when you download a file, with a status bar.

But now I am intruiged and am going to change to see what it is all about. If I just download it what else do I have to do?

Hawkeye,

you are about as much help as a chocolate fireguard :/

Martin, i changed over to Firefox quite sometime ago and wouldn't do without it. The main reason is tabs. Example, on pigeonWatch i view all new post. If i middle click on each post link it opens it up in another tab and in the background (you have to tweak that bit to suit you in the tab options). While the new link is loading you can continue to browse the page you're on. To do the same thing in IE it would open up a whole new window that you have to click away from to view the previosou page balh blah blah, i feel like i'm rambling now. Seriously i find the tabbed browsing makes the whole browsing experince run smoother and easier. Download it, you can run both IE and firefox on the same PC no problems (at least i can!).

Fantastic news!!!

Funny though, that my current FF1.5 browser finds no available updates when I ask it to search for them? Oh well.

Fabulous browser, been using it almost two years now, was fed up with advertising pop-up's in IE, spyware, diallers etc.

Plus, being a smaller player in the browser market makes Firefox less attractive to virus writers.

Tabbed web browsing is a thing of sheer beauty too :/

Depends how you ask it to "find updates". For a major version change Mozilla recommend a fresh download and install.

You won't look back :good:

I know nothing about Firefox but have heard lots of good things about it. So a bit of info please. If I download and install Firefox 2 I will be able to use it instead of IE simply by clicking on its icon and if I don't like Firefox can I simply uninstall it and revert to IE? :good:

Thanks in anticipation.
