Vince Green
An elderly relative of my wife was on the phone first thing. There was a dead fox in her garden, could I come and move it for her. So round I go, she had already been on to the council who had said if it was in her garden they would have to charge her. However, if she phoned back in an hour and reported a dead fox in the gutter outside her house they would take it for free, which was pretty decent of them. When I got round sure enough there was a dead fox but it was a bit of a mystery. It was a youngster, barely an adult in good condition (apart from being dead of course) well fed, good fur in winter coat. No sign of injury from bullet or car or illness. No blood or salva, nothing The strange thing was it was lying stretched out on the patio the way a dog sleeps in front of a fire. Not a sign of pain or distress, legs straight out, head straight out, mouth closed and eyes closed. Surely if it was injured or ill it would have tried to crawl away or curled up or something. Why would it just lie down on a cold wet patio and just die? So I phoned a mate who knows a lot more than I do about these things. He reckons it was probably poisoned with sleeping tablets and its quite common. So I though I would share that with you all. i have some photos on my phone but I dont have a cable to download them. TIGHTCHOKE
it was probably poisoned with sleeping tablets There's your answer - it fell asleep on the patio and died!
Vince Green
There's your answer - it fell asleep on the patio and died! Yes apparantly thats exactly what it did. Well, probably more like passed out on the patio and died of an overdose. I didn't realise until I spoke to my mate yesterday that sleeping tablets are just about the easiest lethal substance the average person can get his hands on. And clearly they kill in a way that wouldn't arouse much suspicion. It wasn't convulsed up or foaming at the mouth as you might expect with some poisons, I don't know, I have no experience of poisoning except with rats. You don't realise how nieve you are until you actually see it for yourself. Edited February 16, 2013 by Vince Green

amateur
I found one about 5 years ago, just stretched out, dead on the front lawn. It looked in good health and had no wounds - just dead! I popped it into the garden waste bin and it was taken with the other rubbish. Vince Green
Anti freeze ? No there was a young bloke in the warehouse where I used to work years ago who's wife left him and he drank antifreeze. he was in hospital for ages and died a horrible gruesome death. Gave me nightmares and I barely knew the bloke. Not peacefully sleeping on the patio like this fox. I think my mate was pretty much on the button when he said sleeping tablets. The doctors hand them out like smarties and they are pretty easy to get your hands on. Probably find there's a website somewhere telling you how to do it.
