I would expect to hit 50 out of 50......but would be happy with 10?

I would be happy with that, unless shooting clays every week-end.

Well done & like your gundog?

Cheers I didn't think 28 was too bad, as for the dog hes an old English Bulldog and I love him to bits, but he's not a gun dog, he would likely run off with my kill :D

You can't really compare scores like that. You might hit 28 on your local ground, but 10 on someone else's and 40 on another. If it is a CPSA registered shoot than than you will have rough idea of your actual ability when comparing to others.

I'm well aware of these factors, which is why I asked the reader ignore the variables and give an average, but hey...

Thats very true indeed at my local today I got a 76 out of 100 ,

And at my first CPSA shoot a few weeks ago I got a measly 56 out of 100 ???

I think a 30 / 50 score is very acceptable if you dont shoot clays every week, My average is 32 but my best week was 40 / 50 , ive only been shooting clays for about 2 months but go every week to try to improve my hit rate on the feathered variety. I find the 2 very different , I prefer to shoot pigeon and crow, and normally expect to hit a higher percentage than clays, but a regular visit to a clay ground certainly sharpens your aim. :yahoo:

I just started last November , managed to get up to 24 at caerwys then the heavy wind came and walked home after spitting my dummy out with just 6!

2 days ago went to nwss and hot around 65-70 from 100 so I have noooo idea what will happen one day to the next. I guess that's the fun of it.

I do pretty good on a rough shoot. I think.

You can't ignore the variables unfortunately because every shoot is different in so many ways, but I know we we have laid out a good non competition 50 bird club shoot if the scores come in with one or two on 47+ , the majority between 38-43 and the lowest of the regular shooters on 30+. I would expect a total novice who has spent some time on the practice stand to come out in the teens.

It is very difficult to set up a shoot that keeps everyone happy, our layout is different every time, but if we get a result as above then most people seem to be quite satisfied.

On my first time out last week I got 23 out of 25, shooting 3 diff positions (coming to me, going away, and side on). The 2 I missed were the side on ones. Tracking the clay sideways was a little tricky. The MK38 I shot with was a charm. The mother bought me a voucher for the York Gate club, and she insisted she went too. Thing is, she hit 25/25 haha.
