flash
as some of u know im currently attending an agricultural college studying countryisde managment in countryside managment(ewuivelant to 3 A levels), on the way to my first lecture of the day i found a rabbit with a serious case of myxamatosis, so serious that u could near touch it, so i thought it was best to put it out of its misery, so it was quickly dispatched, but just as this happened a group of kids came round the corner and spotted me about to chuck it into the field round the back of the college, the proceeded to shout at me telling me its cruel to kill rabbits, and that it was perfectly healthy, even though i could show them the extent of the mixy, so i chucked the rabbit itno the hedge and walked away not wanting to get into a debate about hunting. so im just wandering should the problem arise with a mixy rabbit, what is the best course of action to take. cheers flash
Dunkield
The only time I have left a mixy rabbit was when we walked the Long Walk in Windsor, we had the dog with us but tihs poor thing was surrounded by tourists, I am afraid I just didn't want the aggro. God knows what happened to it.
al4x
I've had the same when I dealt with one by the road had this irate woman giving me some verbal allegedly was going to report me to the RSPCA and police, Took my reg number etc. I made sure I kept the rabbit and it did sit in the freezer for a while just in case but never heard any more about it. Next time just do the same the suffering is awful with Mixi. i just wish i'd driven over the one I saw rather than stopping!
Ferret Master
You did the right thing. I'm slightly suprised at an agriculture college that people don't know that mixy is bad for rabbits and any that have it are far from healthy. I would have just necked it and told the antis where to go. FM

Ferret Master
kirky, Dad did exactly the same thing when he was younger but there was a policeman behind him and the rabbit in the road had mixy. He jumped out, hit the rabbits head on the wall chucked it in the hedge and told the policeman it had mixy then and drove off. The policeman wasn't too sure what to say. Hunter
Flash you did the best thing. I have only once left a Mixy to its fate, this was on the roadside, too many passing cars. In the forest if I find one, its usually a fallen branch to do the job, or heel of the boot. Quick, clean, and a lot less suffering for the bunny. Its sort of our field duty, since we are taking their lives, this shows our respect for the animals, to ensure no suffering takes place, during shooting our outside of shooting sports Once a hunter, always a hunter

Lord Geordie
I think we ALL carry out mercy killings now and then on a Rabbit or Bird in severe distress. You did what you thought best and would lead to less suffering for the Rabbit just ignore them. Someone mentioned it being an Agricultural College and people should understand Mixy etc! I attended Kirkley Hall college studying Agriculture and Horticulture and beleive it or not there ARE ****** in the colleges rich toffs with attitudes and also the likes of Animal rights campaigners. To be quite honest more than HALF don't know the *** end of a Bovine let alone where the Milk comes from. I always giggled when you get the numpties with quotes like It's got horns it's a Bull Like YEAH a Bull with 4 penis's First time they see a Pheasant they think it's a Parrot You would have a laugh watching them trying to trim Sheeps and Goats hooves. We had a Lad spewed his Guts when there was a Castration on a Bullock And god help you when there let loose on the Tractor Training. I saw a lad get his foot ran over and another crash the Dumper into a pile of farrowing crates Good memories i had some real fun there LG
Highlander
You did the right thing AND don't ever play judas and deny you're a shooter/field sports enthusiast. Stand up and be counted there are anti's everywhere not just in agri colleges. They have a life adgenda and get jobs in all those public service industries where they can make a b***** nuisance of themselves. Was following a car today that had the number plate WI6EON and a back window full of BASC BDS CA etc etc stickers. Thumbs up to the man
flash
dont worry we allways stand are ground on our course(me and my mates, all heavily into hunting), even when the antis get a bit angry, one of the anties on our course threatened to smack for doing a talk on fox hunting, but he realised he was against 80% of the class, and that it wasnt a good idea. cheers flash
Ferret Master
I've had that before. This person said to my old tutor: 'Ollie's a cruel cold blooded murderer; he kills rabbits and then eats them.' This person didn't know my tutor who grew up in the Brecon Beacons did exactly the same thing when he was younger! Oh and my little talk on hunting which turned into a two lesson debate had several people wanting to kill me. I just laugh at them and walk away.
