Is there any difference between the Winchester SX3 black shadow and th

Does anyone know why the current SX3 black shadows are quite a bit cheaper than the older grey barrel and action models? The black shadow is the current model, but don't know whether the older model came with a hard case. The black shadows can be had for cheaper, but prefer the grey barrel, not so keen on the black having held one for fit on Saturday.

I believe the black shadow was new for 2012, being showcase in 2011 shooting shows. So any grey composite will have been sitting on a shelf for a year & a half.....

My local RFD does a clay pigeon shoot starting May time, so a good place to start and get some tuition, whilst trying a variety of cartridges.

Even some of the second hand grey composites are more than a new black shadow

Thanks

There is no difference old or new etc they are the same I have had my sx3 grey composite one came straight from belgium 6 months ago and came in a card box 3 chokes etc. I ordered it and they sent the black shadow and I took it and spent some time thinking about it and after a while I took it back and said I would have it if they changed the price they said no and ordered the grey one. It's just a Finnish/ coating on the gun that makes the difference iv had both on my ticket and held both in my hands at the same time and they feel and weigh and are the same.same parts when stripped down its just a £100 difference in the finnish. I like the look of the grey over the black that's pretty much it. Hope this helps.

Yes I know it will be one of them, I just wondered which one!

That's a price of the comp grey one you can get the shadow for about £750 I'm sure there that at lees at Boston so worth a shop around very good gun though and I'm happy with mine. Just need to stop being so busy and get a go used it 4 times in 6 months and twice was on clays.

Dave Shipman in Whittlesey, a top bloke, but he doesn't have any in an would only be able to order the black shadow...

Thanks V.M I use Dave every now and then! :good:

Sounds like it might be worth going a little further afield as you know what you want. Have a look on the internet and see where you can get the best price!

Just out of interest tc whom do you use for carts ant kit do you have a 1st choice. How did the lad do at rugby? Some nice weather to play in!!

Gav

My last lot of carts (Kent Velocity / Gamebore 29 g 6s) came from Dave at Whittlesey. Prior to that it was Gamebore Steel shells from Sporting Targets at Riseley and the lot before that were Rio Classic 30 g 6s from CCI at Corby. I use the same shells all the time so just go where I can get the best deal for a reasonable quantity.

Guns come from all over the place, again whereever I can get a deal. Wabbitbosher from Kettering is good for a bargain!

He played all but one game, came home very stiff and tired and the team unfortunately came 5th out of 6. But it was good character building stuff!

Thanks for asking.

T.C.

Yes, it was the 3.5" black shadow, they said the 3" would be around the £750 mark. I've seen the black shadow advertised for £739 at Donaldons, not too far down the A1, but am sure Dave would match that or somewhere I between factoring in fuel.

Cci Corby I didn't know there was anywhere in Corby for carts that would have saved a lot of time. That's great news cheers for that. Iv got a bosher bargain in my collection and have my air rifle of Dave at whittlesey. I really enjoyed the game and playing just not the pain been at leat 4 years since I last played. Taking part that counts though and a good day out.

Its the painted finish.I bought a second hand grey one and my mate bought a new black one,the black finish is not as good as the grey as its gone rusty on the barrel, fact not fiction.

As Albert888 said, the grey coating is much more weather resistant than the black. I purchased my grey synthetic from a browning/winchester open day and had a good chat with the rep there and he said the grey was tougher than the black or camo. After a season on the marshes with lots of use and abuse it has stood up well.

Yes the grey is much better on corrosion, likewise the cammo is just as good which has the same coating under the cammo wrap. My cammo has maybe done 200 flights of proper wildfowling plus a fair amount of wet moorland fox and vermin shooting in all weathers. The cammo has burned at the muzzle a little but other than a little very light spotting on the shell lifter is totally corrosion free. Its been swimming a few times and travelled around un-cleaned in the slip for many hours

Thanks chaps for explaing to the inferior quality black shadow owners.:-P

There must be a reason why the black shadows are starting out cheaper :whistling:

Anyway phoned the RFD this morning, £100 deposit paid on a new grey SX3, 3.5" chamber 30" barrel. :good: I dont think there was much in the 28" and 30" barrels, time will tell. And may just get another SG in 28" if need be.

Just await the approval / receipt of the SGC now

I got the 26" version and cant really tell much difference between that and my 28" o/u, but next to my mates 30"black rusty shadow it looks tiny: enjoy your new gun and all the best Albert.

I picked up the SX3 today...... Was all excite till I went to put in one of my to safes..... I have an RL5 & RL7, both brattonsound a with lockable tops (i need them for my rile ammo & bolts, etc). I had to remove foam at the base of the safe in order for the barrel / shotgun to fit under the top box, then only a millimetre to spare. Edited by varminter pb

I've got the same problem with my cabinet, have to put a 27" barreled Remington 11-87 in at an angle to get it in the cabinet. I plan to chop the ammo box out because i only use it for keeping a knife safe
