After my last thread searching for a Good Cree Torch and thankyou to many of you that replied to that thread,i have now taken a closer look at the Nightmaster 800 Torch for scanning and searching, especially the "White Torch".

Any advice would be greatly appreciated-Please only comment on the Torch not the IR one.

Many thanks.

Hard to imagine a better gun-mounted flashlight than the NM800. I use the red LED rather than the white one as I'm using it mostly for foxing. I don't use it as a visible spectrum lamp for rabbit shooting as I have NV, though I do use it with the IR LEd as an IR illuminator. I think that a visible spectrum rabbit lamp, whatever the colour, should have a dimmer. Without the control of a dimmer the NM, especially white, would be very bright for rabbit shooting at .22 ranges. I should have thought it would be excellent for scanning ahead though.

When you say searching, do you mean retrieving carcases as well? If so the tight beam is less good for this. I use my Fenix headtorch for picking up. Its 200 lumens but a very wide beam that lights up your whole field of vision. I find this much better than a spot beam.

The great thing about the NM800 is its versatile. You can always buy different LEDs for different purposes, including IR for NV should your needs change. Do buy the extra battery and tube section though. If you don't use the extended tube in the field, you'll have a spare battery to carry which is useful as being lithium they give you no warning when they are about to give up.

Thanks for that good info mate.Just want something that is good to over 200 yards for spotting then use my Archer Gen 3 NV to shoot, then use the Torch to retrieve.

The ir is absolutely brilliant with the archer you really can spot foxes to 400 yards plus on my scope,

Why are you looking to spot with a torch? Defeats the object of the archer just use the unit to spot,

I leave the Archer on my scope Alex so is ready when I spot a Fox.

Also want a good torch not only for spotting but for retrieving as the ground I shoot is mainly rough terrain with plenty of crevasses, rocks and uneven ground.

They are awesome for the size. I keep mine in my pocket when out with the archer for picking up foxes once shot. It's a lot cleaner light compared to conventional lamps. It makes solo lamping a lot easier as well. The red LED is also excellent

Ben

Thanks Ben for your info.

This is what I'm after picking up dead quarry after using the Archer.

Very easy - just use the tool supplied to unscrew 1 "Pill" & fit another - Taclight now also sell spare "necks" the part of the torch that carries the "Pill" even easier still - just unscrew the lens housing, remove the neck section, fit required neck & refit the lens. I have a spare neck with the Red LED fitted so I can just swap it over as required.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Quite amusing at times to be so shut to any other ideas when you have decent gear and aren't using it properly.

To answer can you spot with the nm yes you can no problem as the led's are switchable most with it with the ir led also use it with either red or white light. You can spot with white to at least 350 yards and red 250 for looking for dead foxes only its overkill have a look at the Cree torches much cheaper if you don't need the range.

My inkling though is you'd be best off buying a roll of electrical tape and making your bayonet scope adaptor fit properly so you can use the archer properly and fit it back to the rifle fast

Dazzling white long range light for scaring quarry off seems such a novel idea, I thought I was the only one doing that.

I stop on the far side of a couple of my permissions on the way out and shine a white torch around. I used to have to bang on the gate to get them scarpering towards my permission but they oblige me now as soon as the light goes on - whoosh. By the time I'm round the other end they're mostly settled down and don't bother so much about visible or near Infra Red light.

Sorry for mentioning orthodox night shooting lighting - it just slipped out. :whistling::)

Can anyone confirm if the white LED does have an adjustable beam, also do the 3 power settings work with it?

I have the red LED (and love it) just been toying with getting the white also.

Uninterested in the IR too,as the Firefly IR i have with the Archer gives more than enough illumination....don't see the need to light up the whole field.

So can you open the beam up on the white or does it keep the same square beam just not as intense please?

You can adjust the beam to a certain extent with any of the LEDs fitted by turning the lens housing at the front of the torch. But the point of a parabolic lens is to focus the beam tightly to intensify the light so its never going to produce a flood beam or much spill. But you can certainly soften the harsh sguare shape.
