aris
Anyone got any crafty ideas for empty cartridges? Here are some fridge magnets I made. I cut them down - but not all the way to the brass - I left a few mm of plastic. Then I put some neodymium magnets inside. You may need to fill them in with a wooden dowel and use some epoxy or something depending on how deep the brass is. One other thing i've seen before is a coat hook made with cartridge brass. Looked quite smart! If you have any other ideas or seen anything interesting please post.
Lord Geordie
I was thinking of using a few for collars between a stick and the head when stick making. Was also thinking of getting a bit of dowel and then drill through the centre and.cut to length of a cart. Feed the carts onto a long threaded bar to make a stick
aris
Yes, a cartridge would make a nice walking stick head. If I ever come across an 8-bore shell, I'll keep it in mind
Walker56
What about a light pull string or a clipper cigarette lighter holder or you could try this, http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=1ByneI3j4lI Edited April 9, 2013 by Walker56
Wharf Rat
I made a selection of fox calls with brasses of different lengths. The different lengths give different pitches. There is a thread on here with some other ideas if you do a search.

aris
I like the bathroom light pull string idea. Just need to add a bit of weigh to it.

Lord Geordie
I like the bathroom light pull string idea. Just need to add a bit of weigh to it. I did this once with an old spice aftershave bottle Just weight it with sand put string in then glue gun the end to hold the string and keep the sand in. Or use a loaded shell, it's full of lead! Drill through the primer and bobs your uncle and fanny is your A&E nurse  I am joking of course !!!!!!!!

mark1206
I cut the case off the brass knock out the primer and screw to the bottom of a stick to make a nice cheap ferrule for the bottom of a walking stick.

Lord Geordie
Think that chair is FAB! I saw a set of the tree lights either last year or one before on fleabay. I bid on them but didn't win. May try making some perhaps. I am thinking a better idea would be introducing a clear plastic capped cylinder in then crimp it off. But I would insert tue bulb through the primer port. Lord Geordie
The Xmas tree lights should be simple - buy some cheap bright white LED Xmas lights and attach cartridges. Try crimping an empty cart You will need a clear tube and cap to stop the crimp inverting. I am gonna give it a go. See how I get on. See how I get on. Does it need to be crimped? I thought I would just put some small holes about 1cm from the opening, and then cut down to them. The wires would slide down the cuts and sit in the holes. This would not work well for outdoor lights, but I'm not sure I would want to advertise a shot gun outside my home anyhow. maxus77
this wasnt the guide i was on about but this one just shows hot gluing them http://offbeathome.com/2012/12/shotgun-shell-christmas-lights these look like crimped and light pushed in ? http://www.instructables.com/id/Shotgun-shell-Christmas-lights/ Edited April 16, 2013 by maxus77

My thought was use the primer.hole to insert the LED's also before recrimping use a confetti style punch to cut out christmas tree shaped holes in the sides to project light through! Aha - nice idea if they fit. Perhaps instead of crimping you an wedge a 16 or 20 bore cartridge in the ther end to close it up with a bit of glue. Lord Geordie
Just tried the LED through the primer hole and it goes in fine. Will actually need to make some gromits to hold them in the hole. I am going to try making a string of them over the next couple of weeks.
