Personally, id go KTM.

my friend had an EXC, i had a kawasaki KXF. Was interested in going KTM, so i went to my nearest show room.

I once asked the sales man, whats the difference between the SX and the EXC?

His reply. SX is motocross, designed to be ride to its limits, full acceleration, no acceleration, blasting through the gears etc... The EXC is more enduro, can do what the SX can to most extents but can endure more maintained speeds and is generally more fit for longer riding.

Whether what he said is true or not, i dont know. I can see the logical behind it though.

I had a motocross bike, KXF and it was awful on the road. Motocross bikes really arent good on the road. So id assume the more enduro EXC would be more fitting. That is of course, if you are intending to use it for the road use...

I've have 4 ktms and 2 huskys.

The 570 husky was my favourite.

Gotta say it was great fun on the track but for a road bike they are unbelievably uncomfortable and have a real short range.

Great for wheelies ect but your licence won't last long

I had a 250 EXC and loved it, used it for greenlaning and did one enduro on it only downside was having to take oil when going out for the day. Previous to that bike I had a XR250 then a DRZ400E, the KTM was quicker than both of them put together!!

I'd be tempted by another four stroke if I was going to get another bike though.

had a ktm 620 supercomp on the road, got bored with it in a couple of months.

no real top speed, and was only really any fun round the lanes.

on a longer drag it ran out of legs and just wasnt suited to sitting at a decent speed.

There was a big craze for them a few years back, with people paying £4-5k for CCM R30's etc.

The craze inevitably waned, when people realized that you couldn't keep up with your mates on a Sunday morning (very limited top speed) and that you'd constantly need to visit the petrol station.

Instead, there's been a bit of a resurgence in naked bikes - the FZ6, Aprilia Shiver 750, Kwak ER-6 etc. (and their bigger brothers FZ-1, Z1000 etc). My advice would be to go for something like that.

The motor-cross bike is a lot of fun because it's the right bike for the environment it's used in. Unless you live next to a massively twisty B road, I don't think you'd get the same enjoyment from a supermoto.

As most people have said , they are a very focused bike. I had a Husky 570 , the first time I rode it , I thought "what the hell have I done ! " . Twisty roads are great , but I found there wasn't enough of them :-) . After half an hour I used to have a numb backside , pins & needles in my arms from the vibration , and an empty fuel tank .

I now have a big trailbike , it suits my needs better .

ktm would of been better bet had both honda needs valves adjusted every 15-20 hours which is via shims, ktm is similar but lot easier just some feeler gauges .had ktm 660 which was beast built as a supermoto not a motorcross bike with wheels changed ,ktm 525 and 450 were mint fun but engines arnt built for the roads .far better to buy something soley built for the purpose intended
