steve_b_wales
After selling my expensive pair of Kahles binoculars, through lack of use, I went and bought a set of these, Hawke Nature Trek. http://www.2020optics.co.uk/hawkebinoculars/hawke-nature-trek-8x42-green-binoculars.html They are excellent and the clarity is very good. Although they can't be compared with my Kahles and other top end bino's, they are well worth the money if you just want them for general spotting/viewing. mick miller
Similar to the frontier ed's I bought. Not swaros but not two grand either. Having looked through both I wouldn't spend two grand more for the better set. I can take these anywhere and use them without being terrified I'll bust them. Underdog
Now I only use open sights on my C/F's I got some Stieners, nope they not top end but still very good and give me all I need. £200. U.

Having looked through both I wouldn't spend two grand more for the better set. I can take these anywhere and use them without being terrified I'll bust them. I just bought some frontier EDs as well...the cost me £220 and for the money they are really really good. Google them and read all the glowing reviews. I cannot justify £1000 on binos but a lot of these reviews say they are nearly as good but a fifth of the price.

Gimlet
I've got a pair of Steiner Ranger Pro 8 X 42. Optically excellent for the money. Looking through them and Swarovski 8.5 X 42 side by side in first light the difference was tiny. I've had issues though. The eye cups came loose. Sent them back under warranty through GMK and they came back 6 weeks later no different. They only have a 10 year warranty. If you pay four times the price for Swaro over Steiner you won't get four times better glass. They'll be better but not that much better. You will get four times better customer service and warranty back-up though and that means you've effectively got a no-quibble pair of bins for life. Worth paying for and that's what I'll be doing next time.
Redgum
I bought a set of Bushnell ex excusions 8x42, cracking set of bino's, my mate has swaro's and the differance is hardle noticeable, definatley not £1200 noticeable.

dadioles
It is difficult (impossible?) to hold things steady above 8x I use Canon image stabilised binoculars 12x36 - not cheap but a bright crisp image and they lock rock steady when you press the button. Perfect for spotting bunnies hiding in the grass at 100 yards. They have come down a lot in price since I bought mine and are now a bit over £400 - Brilliant! stan68
I prefer my zeiss victorys over my swarovskis which are now redundant!!
