Cosd
Isn't it odd, as soon as the words Land Rover are mentioned, it has a similar effect to leaving out a shot bird on a hot summers day......
fenboy
To be fair I have just look at the what car reliability survey and the freelander from 2006 is landrovers best performer with 24% needing repair in the year , however the rangerover comes in at 71% which is shocking to say the least . The Honda CRV was best 4x4 with 10%

fenboy
Almost a convert I would rather stick pins in my eyes than throw money in a pit , if I ever feel I must have a 4x4 it will be a Jap one , my sister in law had a disco from new and it spent more time back at the garage in its first year than it did at hers !! stubby
I reckon its no different from the escort shotgun debate, you either love them or hate them, by the way, I own an escort shotgun too, it works as it should and mine (not shotty) is diesel not petrol

The Honda CRV was best 4x4 with 10% you do hear some crackers, on another forum a member with a brand new Range Rover has issues with his getting gravel behind some exhaust heat shields that then causes noises and rattles. Now as someone with a gravel drive they are still trying to charge him each time to sort the issue Realistically they are generally better than they were but bought more for the badge than any other rational reason. Freelanders are good when they are working but some of the issues are expensive to sort out. This one has been looked after so you can only go on how it does over time. rangey
i had a l200 and a toyota surf before the land rovers and i had more problems with them than the landys, not saying every lr is problem free but same goes for japs aswell.if your unlucky you will get a bad one of either. I would rather stick pins in my eyes than throw money in a pit , if I ever feel I must have a 4x4 it will be a Jap one , my sister in law had a disco from new and it spent more time back at the garage in its first year than it did at hers !! ferguson_tom
My wife had a freelander and although it was a pain in the rear end when we first got it we got a good 12 months trouble free motoring out of it and i was quite sad to see it go. Personally I thought they were nicer than the equivalent japs on the road and a nice place to be in, ours was the facelift mark 1 HSE. If its a tidy and looked after motor i am sure you will be fine main expensive issue to fix is the IRD and VCU which much past 100,000 miles you are on borrowed time according to most reports on them. At the same time nissan x trails blow turbos so nothing is perfect and all cars cost you money. If i was able to keep ours it would of had a synergy 2 tuning box fitted. Reports for these are all good and basically get the TD4 engine back up to normal BMW tuning as it is in there cars like the 3 series making it alot more repsonsive and powerful. Hope it's not a 1.8 petrol Neighbour has a disco been used on the road and has 200K on it. Had loads done to it couple of gearboxes I can think of and mostly under warranty (he took an extended one and glad he did!) Now it needs new brake pipes and hes been quoted mega money they told him the bodywork has to be removed!!
al4x
Now it needs new brake pipes and hes been quoted mega money they told him the bodywork has to be removed!! the other halfs parents disco has just been in for them and the fuel pipes that corrode and the bill wasn't nice, something to do with metal pipes prone to corrosion so typical landrover engineering. But I think they managed it without taking the body off thats only on 70k and been looked after and never been offroaded Edited May 15, 2013 by al4x
