DRAIN CLEANING HELP

I am up north near Amble visiting my daughter and her toilet/sewer is blocked.

She purchased some rods and I have spent a few hours and managed to snap five of them...so no good.

Has anyone used a preasure washer to clear drains and are they any good.

Used to work on building sites as a groundworker. Have had to clear any number of drains where the test stoppers got left in. Never, ever broke a rod.

You need better quality rods, to start with.

Try rodding up from a clear manhole towards the blockage. Get a hosepipe, and use plenty of water on any solids that you do manage to break free, to help flush them all down the lines properly. Don't put any of the fittings on the rods, as they can catch on joints, and the 'corkscrew' can quite easily break through pipes (especially plastic, but even clay). Make sure you have located all the manholes, and spend some time working out exactly where the problem is.

If it doesn't work, then try calling a local independent drain company out, if you can. Dyno-rod and the rest of the big boys are insane prices, just for callout and the first 30 mins.

Last time our shower blocked up I was told to go to nearest plumbers merchant and purchase a liquid called "one shot" (think that's it's name) excellent stuff and after a short wait whilst all sorts of fumes came out the drain bingo flushed through with water and clear as a bell. Maybe worth a try?

Just unblocked the drain.

'Have had to clear any number of drains where the test stoppers got left in. Never, ever broke a rod'...from above robbiep got me thinking that if I had a proper set of rods it would shift. Loaned a set of good rods 10mins later WHHHOOOOOSSSSHHH.

Many thanks as ever.

Glad it's sorted.

Check all the manholes are clear, get her to flush the loos while you watch the manholes for a good rush of water, to make sure there isn't anything that has got trapped further back up the lines.

If she has been there a while, and this is the first time it has happened, check that various not-nice items (to put it delicately) aren't being flushed down the loo.

I've knew one new house where the drains blocked up within a fortnight of the people moving in. Turned out they had been flushing disposable nappies down the loo.

Yes, really.

Go to b&q & get a 1 ltr bottle of 1 shot £9.99, empty as much wate as possible then add the 1 shot, pinch your nose & run ! As the smell will offend the dead. It's a acid based & is s@/t hot stuff, I use on all my sites, I manage industrial estates. No pun intended in the name that's what it's called

Take it that its a 4" drain ? If so attach the 4" plunger and as others have said rod from the clear manhole to the blockage. The suction caused by repeated plunging of the rods should pull through the blockage unless its a nappy. Be wary of adding chemicals as if they dont work and you still need to rod they will burn like a bitch. A decent HPWJ firm will clear it in five mins if all esle fails, I had the misfortune to be an operative last year- pay no more than £90 :good:
