il cacciatore
I have a Winchester model 1200 pump action shotgun and the previous owner let the barrel go ever so slightly rusty, he then sanded it ! Which was good for me cause I got a very decent gun very cheap. Though now after hiding the bad looking barrel with "no mar" gun tape, I found out why no mar tape is rubbish because A: It leaves sticky residue behind and B: It can let the barrel rust out of sight and thats something I don't want to be doing. So the time has come to do something about it. Has anyone painted a barrel? Paint it or DIY blue kit it? To have it blued properly done it will cost me £70 or I could get a new barrel for it but that would be too much money. Basically I want to do something about it without spending money on it. Ferretboy111
I bought some gun blue to do some touch ups on my air rifles etc and it worked well, cant see it looking very good on a whole barrel though, id get it done prefessionally, or not atal. njc110381
You'll have to get the scratches from the sanding out of it if you want to blue it, it'll look daft otherwise! If it's just a rough gun that you don't need to care about too much, just oil it lightly after each use and it wont rust. Not sure about painting it, if you fire it heavily the barrel will get hot so paint may not stay on?
pin
I'd consider getting it powder coated, I think that would look awesome

il cacciatore
Comments are very much welcomed. Has anyone had or know of anyone who has had a barrel powder coated? As I happen to know somewhere that could do it cheaply.. though don't know if they would do a shotgun barrel. How would that work anyhow, sending of a shotgun part to have powdercoated? Whats hydrographics?

Gully
YOu could get it vapourblasted to get rid of all the scratches/old blue then clear powdercoated to have nice steel coloured barrels.

rarms
For a barrel I would think you are looking at about £100 I was quoted £220 for a service, strip and dip for my Airarms S410. Looks the business when done and is rust proof etc....
BobGee
Years ago I had an old Baikel O/U that had silver barrels from lots of use, as I had played with blueing and got poor results I degreased the barrels and sprayed a coat of "Airfix" matt black. It looked very good, lasted for years and I had to use Nitromores to get the stuff of when I sold the gun. I would not hesitate to use this again. just my 2p's worth. I had a mate who did that as well with a mossberg in olive green air fix spray on, he applied a coat of epoxy primer first then gave it a number coats, looks good for the price only cost him £10 for the airfix spray and not much for the epoxy primer. Not sure if he put the epoxy primer on the barrel as well might have just put that on the stock, anyway it has stayed on for years now and is totally water proof and cost sod all to do. il cacciatore
£100 is too expensive really... To get it professionally blued is probably a cheaper. Might give that acrylic paint a go...
