glb8686
It's probably been asked a million times but can I, as a sgc holder, countersign someone else's application?
Churchill
As long as you meet the criteria of a person listed to countersign then yes. Known the person for x years, knows no reason why he/she shouldn't hold a certificate, Respected member of society, doesn't kick door in, Doctor, etc.
aga man
check with your firearms dept a counter signature that is not suitable will delay the application as they will return the paperwork. i think it varies slightly from force to force who is deemed suitable. Dekers
As comments above, but in many ways it will be difficult for the Police to argue that an existing SGC holder is NOT a suitable person.

smokinggun
My feo said it didn't need to be the respected member of society bit anymore and a friend doing any job is fine, I used my mate who is a groundsman who also holds a sgc and firearms cert. walshie
If you are on the police checklist of suitable signatories, having a SGC won't make any difference.
Dekers
If you are on the police checklist of suitable signatories, having a SGC won't make any difference. What if you are NOT on the approved signatories list but DO have a SGC? As I said above, that being the case I would have thought the police would have a difficult job in most cases suggesting you were NOT a suitable person! Luckyshot
Under Durham anyone who holds a current sgc can countersign someone else's application.
Vince Green
Another one of those silly grey areas. The old traditional stalwarts, your doctor for example, increasingly won't sign them because they get told they don't know you personally only professionally. What a load of rubbish. It has to be someone who knows you personally. (whatever that means) Some jobsworth FEO dreamed that one up no doubt. I have (anecdotally) heard of people who have moved to a new area, usually associated with retirement, and then struggled to find anyone to sign their renewals. One of our ex-members who moved up to Leicestershire a few years ago had endless problems I recall.
