B B
I have hunted pigs in Australia and New Zealand in the past but never looked in to the legal requirements firearm/ shotguns etc required under uk law to take them, is there any specific caliber requirements in law of shot size slug type etc for taking wild boar here. Mungler
A solid slug is bigger than .270 the last time I looked
al4x
There isn't any caliber restrictions in law but .270 and up is recommended. With everybody allegedly getting AOLQ it would appear you could use most calibers if the mood took you
B B
OK get you sorry! Buck shot too then at a guess Right no single projectile rule then, sorry for being persistent i just dont know the laws on them.

Shotguns / buck lettered shot then is legal right and all just recomendations.?
Beardo
my FLO seemed happy enough to let me have Boar on a 6.5x55 - but as said the HO recommendation is .270 and above. But no legal requirement.

Shotguns / buck lettered shot then is legal right and all just recomendations.? legal indeed whether a good idea another matter but as ever there are boar and there are boar, a 20kg piglet is a different proposition to something 150kgs plus the only real issue would be using slugs but that is only because they need to be FAC and conditioned for use but again AOLQ would be legit. Really though over here we don't do driven boar and its highseats so really you just want a decent rifle and the guideline caliber and above give you the ability to take any

welshwarrior
I've used slugs in Europe and UK but I prefer a good rifle ideally for me a 308 but that's because I know and like the 308 other rounds would of course do.
matt fieldcrafter-uk
You guys are so lucky to have permission on land that has anything like that , I struggle to gain permission for vermin shooting ! I hope you guys feel privileged and enjoy the luxury you have ? I personally hope the numbers swell that driven boar in the uk becomes an option in my lifetime . I think it's got to be hard to beat hunting dangerous game in the classic style , I don't know if I would get the same enjoyment from high seat shooting ? I think if I had a choice I'd like to go with buck shot from a repeating shotgun , as they gallop past me grunting and screaming all the way . stubby
our woods have signs up everywhere, warning of wild boar, internet searches say the same, can't wait to camp over there with the night vision and see if we can spot any, although think the rimfire or 410 will be a tad too small, lol
