unapalomablanca
As we had such a cold spring, can we expect a later harvest? I was shooting over cut barley 3 weeks into july last year, well that same field looks miles away from doing that this year.
yickdaz
I,ll stick me neck out and say it will be mid august before any barley is harvested this summer it is usually the first to be cut like you say in mid to late july followed by rape then wheat
pigeon controller
I normally look to be shooting laid barley in its milky state on or around the start of the course season ( 16th June) but this year I think all crops will be six to eight weeks late. I'm out of the country at present but travelling through France and Italy they were seeding late but the rape was all in flower. I saw an article on Sky News that said we would have wet summers for the next ten years so we will have to get use to it.!!!!!!
motty
I think in some areas a few crops will be a bit later. Where i am i think most of the rape will be the same as normal. Most of the barley may be a week or two later, but it's started to ripen quite quickly. I personally can't wait for harvest as it's been my worst year for pigeons in about 8 years. Harnser
I think it will depend on where you are . The crops on my friends farms are all well on the way and harvest should be at the normal time . An old adage for cereals is "8 weeks from ear to shear " Harnser . yickdaz
to echo pc comments around here anyway its defo 6 to 8 weeks late, the rape is still in flower, the heads on the winter wheat and barley, have only just formed, its not going to put a spanner in the works just means we will be shooting laid crops and stubbles a bit later in the year than we normally do
