turbo33
This is not my video, and without getting into a debate on the suitability of an hmr for foxes, I thought it shows how effective this round can be in certain circumstances. . Si-Bore
I agree the HMR can take them BUT margin for error is so small. My 17 Rem shooting 25g vmax and 4000 fps was very suitable but if I caught the shoulder the bullet would splash on bone and not penetrate far enough. A bad situation to be in. Not criticising but I would not have been so quick to move the camera off in case it was still going.
srspower
From what I have seen the HMR is perfect for foxes. There is a lot of ******** spoken about calibres. In Australia Winchester developed a 42 grain .22lr especially for foxes. And as a kid my dad shot lots of them with a .22lr and never had any issues. With a headshot i'd say the HMR was overkill if anything.
welsh1
I shoot loads of foxes with the hmr,but i wouldn't have taken that shot at that distance,as said the margin for error is very small,a gust of strong wind and it all goes pete tong. He should have just squeaked it in a bit more to be more sure.
V8 90
I've shot loads of Foxes with my Hmr's - haven't had any complain yet as the 1 in he Video didn't - you just have to consider them & not try long range shots - sub 100yds = Ex Fox - well it's still a fox but ........................... bullet boy
Cracking Shot but personally I wouldn't have taken the shot as I would keep shots within 100 yards for Fox-that's my opinion!
tonyrapid177mk2
I've seen this vid before and as far as iam concerned it looked like a good head shot..I've done a few with the hmr and my .22s not at that distance I might add and I've not had one run off yet... magman
If the call was a bit quieter im thinking it would of come in closer just a heads up
turbo33
If the call was a bit quieter im thinking it would of come in closer just a heads up I agree. Sounded a bit frantic, which, I'm sure, is why the fox stopped where he did. But as my OP, not me shooting, it was a video I came across. henry d
Not so sure about getting it closer, long grass in the foreground and a dip with cover between shooter and fox. Ideally get them into a nice close distance and then do it, but if the conditions are right for the shot...
al4x
It worked but I wouldn't have taken it at that range even close up it can go wrong, having watched one shot at 60 or so yards drop then get back up and proceed to outrun my gwp it wakes you up to what they can do. It won't have lived as she was covered in its blood just couldn't quite hold it and got too close to a road to carry on.
simon6ppc
it was a good shot end off,me my self i dont shoot an HMR but i know through experience any caliber can wound a fox, i have shot them and i would feel confident around the 100 yard even a bit more if no wind, but the sound of that call to me was a bit like he or she had buck fever and was not just experienced so may be the shot was that bit to far, but it did go down so say no more.abt simon.....
