HDAV
We are the public safety risk and should pay more for this service?
casts_by_fly
Isn't this the same force that (wrongly) advised certificate holders to give their gunsafe keys to a friend for safe keeping while you are on holiday? Thanks Rick

Paul taylor
Great! Does this mean the SGC application I put in 3wk ago will be sat about until they sort out 9000 cock ups!? Won't hold my breath waiting for reply from them :(
Paladin
So I suppose that the cost of this fiasco will be booked to 'The Firearms & Explosives Dept.' and factored into the cost of the New certificates justifying the proposed hike !! Better still deduct it from her supervisor. Pity we didn't get a single registry as Lord Cullum suggested.
houlsby
Stuck a letter in and 3 variations last week. Rang them to check to see they'd got it, to be confronted and asked to explain why I'd sent stuff in. Really sick to the back teeth. 7 months now for a variation. 7 months for a land check. 1 year for land check info and still going. Absolute crock of ****. They lost my cert last time I sent it in. I expect it to get lost this time too.

I've just come off another thread regarding crappy service regarding certificates;why oh why does nobody want to take these people to task? Does anyone working for BASC,NGO,CA(insert organisation of preference) get delays like this when their certificates are in for renewal? Do MP's or other well connected people experience this sort of **** service? It would be interesting to know.
Paladin
Do not send your certificate in. That is your authority to own/transport/use without that you are ****** if you go out and get stopped.
houlsby
I have to send my cert in "Tim" the head guy told me to otherwise they can't finish the variation. They told me that before I sent in in last time. Had to beg for it back then they decided I wasn't doing a variation anymore. Not told basc, haven't got time tbh. Busy job and young family. Otherwise I'd be screaming at people down the phone all day long. Happily lol

Scully
Iv sent a letter to them.. Read above buddy. I did read it;the result of which was you were 'confronted'.So when you were asked to explain why you had sent it what did you tell them and what effect did your response have? Am I correct in assuming your comments such as being 'sick to the back teeth' and 'absolute crock of **** ' means your letter and any explanation hasn't had the desired effect? Am I correct in thinking you're maybe not affiliated to any shooting organisation? If you're not then that's entirely your choice, but it does have some benefits. houlsby
No I'm not a member of basc etc. to be honest, I didn't think they'd be interested anyway. The letter was quite long explaining how Iv basically been shafted by one of there staff.. Lost tickets, pco's turning up to the wrong farm to perform a land check, Mary telling me 'its all cleared' when in actual fact the only way you could shoot a water pistol is from a 40ft high seat on the conditions, having no paperwork for any land on my 'closed conditions even tho Iv rang, emailed and wrote before about it, and about why a variation and a bloody land check took 7 months+. Mary was very confrontational about why I'd sent multiple cheques (I thought it was £26 PER variation not for as many as you like) and why id rang, told me 'tim wright' who it's addressed to would not be calling me or responding (even tho Iv spoke to him on the phone about this hence the letter) Just getting fed up with it all really. If I knew basc would have done something I'd be joining, but as its already been done I don't think they'll do anything will they? Scully
It's entirely up to you,but love 'em or hate 'em,if it wasn't for some of our shooting organisations(some of them aren't worth a ****)then shooting would be in a lot worse situation than it is now.If money is the problem then the CA are cheap, and they keep banging on about them being able to 'keep lead' (a biiiiiiiig claim which will probably carry 'provisos' with the obligatory * when the small print is read!4)so maybe they are worth a few quid. Service such as you are experiencing quickly becomes the norm when unopposed, and even though you've had a go,nothing gets through quicker than a query from a professional body who know how the system works and do this sort of thing for a living. The service you are getting is totally unacceptable. houlsby
Bit of an update.... Got in touch with basc and rejoined. They rang syp, and I had a very nice phonecall off syp from someone higher up than Mary. Hopefully, variations should be back This week! :-)

houlsby
No, you DON'T HAVE TO. BASC and SYP have now said I don't need to send my ticket in... Challenge it. Get basc involved they soon stop talking ****. You only need to return it so you don't have two certificates. They just reprint it with your new calibre. kaunda
I note from Post ~16 above that ' PCOs turning up at wrong farm for land check '. I would guess that the vast majority of PCOs know far less about the legal requirements and practical aspects of this issue than PLOD himself. I certainly would not want a PCO having anything to do with my Fac/sgc ISSUES.
