steveyg
Met up with Jdog (The Master) for breakfast at 8.30, collected William (the apprentice) and we were set up for 10.30 (Jdog didn't want to set up in the first place ...we should have listened...) No decent flight lines so decided to move to the rape fields which have delivered his recent great results. Shared a hide with William...12 years old...unbelievable natural talent, got talking and he mentioned he had entered a couple of under 16 clay competitions recently... and won one !!. Due to my Beretta stock coming loose.. I shared his gun. It has been a real education today...the apprentice was giving me advice on gun mount, lead and follow through...have I mentioned he is 12.. Digweed watch out. The enthusiasm and desire to hit everything was great to see. If Jdog keeps him under his wing for a while he will be one to watch out for in the coming years. Jdog kept giving advice on choice of shot and location of incoming birds...he has the eye of an eagle where pigeons are concerned.. Rotary seemed to spook them so we decided to change for a flapper...result... 6 in 6 minutes We finished the day on 55, I contributed 6 ... I hit another six...feathers everywhere however they didn't drop so didn't count these. I have never experienced pigeons in these numbers before,,,UNBELIEVABLE day...! I got more bites than pigeons...20 so far and counting with one defo a horse fly bite.. Jdog...your advice and tips given today will ensure I hit more pigeons in the future..thank you Jdog and William...thank you FOR A CRACKING DAY OUT...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JDog
Decoying conditions were very poor and we were lucky to get 55. I was very slow to take in the rotary and put out a flapper (with attached rubber bands, bulldog clips, bits of wire etc) (not mine I hasten to add) but when I did as Steveyg said the results were good. I hope that he enjoyed himself despite the bites (I have an equal number) and he did pull off the shot of the day after I had bullied him into swinging hard onto a bird crossing at 35m which he shot stone dead. pigeon controller
Sound like you all had a cracking day . Doing it is the only way to learn . Just remember what works for you. JDog is it the shade from that hat that attracts the horse flies??

wraivi
I had a few hours out yesterday and found the same...put the rotary out but put it away after 15 mins coz it seemed to scare the birds off as they came in. Flapper worked a treat though. Glad my horsefly trouble was restricted to one visitor who paid dearly for his very short feed!!!
