BigDave15
Famous Grouse Ok so im only 16 but it still warms you up on those cold beating days!
red_stag88
Thats a large misnoma, alcahol does the opposite. When you are cold your blood vessels contract and capileries deepen, to keep the core temp. up. Alcahol opens up your vessels, cooling you down. Tastes good though. Vermin Dropper
Quite right Red, It's the raw alcohol burning your stomach lining that is the warm feeling.
Teal
I think alcohol causes the capillaries near the skin to dilate thereby as RS rightly says blood will go near your skin akin to blushing but you don't go so red. You'll feel warmer like when blushing but will actually be getting colder. This is why after running a distance your cheeks will be red to cool you down still it gives a warming feeling! red_stag88
Your cappileries cant dilate, they are only one cell thick and have no muscle surrounding them, they are only just big enough for one red blood cell to pass through. The are so thin to allow movement of molvules throught the walls.
Teal
I'm sorry mate but they can and do dilate and constrict, if they couldn't our cheeks would be red permanently or the converse have no blood supply.
squirrelhunter
Capilleries can dilate because the surrounding cells can go turgid and flacid to control blood flow
