Husher on Wheat

Wasn't expecting much shooting leading up to the harvest but I called past one of my permissions on the way home from claybashing yesterday.

One wheat field was being hammered by the pigeons, it had been sown but it seems the area covered by the tractor hadn't been sown at all so there were very wide lanes that were allowing the birds to land and walk into the crop.

EDIT <So today...>

I set up next to some electric lines with the bracing cable fenced off in front of me giving nettle cover and my nets set up behind .

Having some reasonable wheelings I was able to find the birds more easily than normal over standing crops but still lost quite a few. I ended up shoot one, pick one otherwise I'd just lose track of where they were. I also had industrial building to my right and a road to my left so shots had to be considered, shooting straight down the length of the field. I could have taken many more otherwise. Shot from 2 til 5.

Nevertheless the Husher did its job and I picked 39, but shot nearer sixty.

Good bag there Andy :good: Its a shame to lose a few, but at least you did your best to minimise that  I think you quite like the hushy

i bet I did a few miles running up the wheelings to find the birds before I lost them. I had two left and rights but could only mark one bird each as they fell into the wheat.

I need a dog don't I :whistling:

may be a daft question  however I will ask it..How more pigeons did you think you shot due to using the hushpower over a standard 12/20 G?

GREAT WRITE UP..!

My kill rate with my 12gauge Urika does tend to be a little higher but the quietness of this gun outweighs that to be honest. I'm using punchy 30g/5 (just) subsonic homeloads so it's no lightweight.

During the harvest I tend to use this most of the time so I'm familiar with the one gun instead of chopping and changing all the time and can use it everywhere without upsetting anyone
