I need a 12G shotgun

After 28 years of air rifle shooting I've decided to have a go at shotguns as the 4 permissions I have want the pigeons and corvids taken care of.

The FAO has just visited and approved my gun cabinet and said I should get my licence in a few weeks so am now looking for a shotgun, however I'm not that clued up on them.

I will be doing decoying from a hide and probably a bit of rough shooting, I have a budget of around £250 so I'm not looking for a Purdy.

I'm not bothered about an O/U or side by side or even a 3 shot single barrel but I want a single trigger as I had a go of my mates O/U with a double trigger and found it awkward.

I will be visiting the gun shop to try a few on but don't want to pay their prices.

Any tips and advice welcome.

go for the beretta 301 its practically the same as the 391 and will last you years easy to clean and brilliant for rapid pigeon or crow shooting

because you can load it while still shooting without taking your eyes off the quarry

if you get chance have a go with a semi auto.

if you cant afford 2 guns and you want to go clay pigeon shooting then get a reasonable second hand o/u

good luck

if your used to single barrel rifles then maybe a single barrel would be a easier transition? just a thought? as ive always stated on these types of questions i rate remmingtons (1100's and 1187's) and will back there corner all the way ive found there very well built, hold there value very well and super realiiable! and best of all often cheap! anywhere from 120-500, ive shot quite a few cheap semi's and found this to be my prefered! but each to there own go to your local gun smiths (not generic gun shop) and ask his/her opinion try a few see how they cycle you might not get to grips with the reloading ? if you fancy a trip to north suffolk you can by all means put some shots through my remi and my o/u's to see what suits you better? you need to just try a few things!
