digger
driving back from the farm i shoot on today i passed a feild with four deer in it.kids in the back of the car were counting wildlife and they shouted "white deer".turned around and sure enough there was a white deer. not really had much cause to be into deer so my question is threefold.it was in kent near to goudhurst, would they be roe ? are white deer common in the wild ? and is a white hart a buck only ? fullbore
its more likely to be a fallow. They can be either black or white in addition to their normal pelage, menil ormelanistic to give it the correct term
digger
thanks fullbore.the only deer ive seen on my farm are roe and even then very rarely.are fallow deer as wide spread as roe ? ive seen enough of both to know the difference but fallow deer dont seem to feature on the few hundred acres i shoot on. Cranfield
There are some white (hart) fallow deer around Chilham in Kent and not too far from Tenterden, so I would guess they were likely to be fallow. Apparently, they are white deer and not albinos.
henry d
I think you may find that a white hart is a stag ie.Red deer although a white fallow is more likely to be seen than a "white" red deer.
Cranfield
I have seen two white fallow deer with antlers, they looked just like the pub signs. Just speaking to a friend on the telephone and he reckons there are some near Tunbridge Wells also.

P03
Are there any Red Deer in Kent? Most likely a white Fallow they're a lot more common than you'd think.
henry d
This is what I meant ! –noun, plural harts, (especially collectively) hart. a male deer, commonly of the red deer, Cervus elaphus, esp. after its fifth year.
dunganick
this will sound stupid...... but i may well know this deer i shoot a piece of land on the A21 (just before the kippings cross round about to go to paddock wood) Anyway, this peice of land has a heard of fallow, and the alpha buck is a white buck. He has a stinking attitude and has been attacking people on my land, i'm waiting untill he goes for the land owners wife or dogs, as im not actually allowed to shoot deer on this land, and once it does that im in buisness  btw there are pleanty of fallow around that way, never seen a roe though
digger
nick,i saw the deer about a mile past the blue boy pub ( where the new petrol station is).as the crow flies thats about three miles from your land so may well be the same deer ? i had to despatch a roe with a broken leg on "my" farm, sadly thats the only deer ive seen on several hundred acres after eight years shooting on it
dunganick
this heard travel through the bottom of the valley which runs down towards peteridge in the morning and then normally re-appear in the evening. so could well be. Its been a while since ive shot that piece of land (3 months maybe) so i havent seen it in a while. But everytime i walk the woods my mate is ready to run away from it He's not so keen on the larger species. And we normally see it. He's mine though , so dont you go shooting him you have PM

pestbry
we got white fallow done near me in the newport-chepstow area , back a few yrs ago i was driving home from a lamping trip throught the lanes going through the forrest . I was telling my mate about the white stag thats about , then just as we came around a bend there he was in the road, i slowed down he just jumped onto the grass bank and i drove about 2-3metres away from him  About a few months later there were lots of signs pinned all around the forrest saying Someone had shot the white stag . Since then i've seen a few white deer about Bry
Dunkield
Just to be picky a male fallow is a buck not a stag. And the menil variety is'nt white, white is a seperate variety to menil. also white fallow are quite common in areas where there is alot of fallow. Male Fallow are indeed Bucks (but don't tell Bill Odie) Menil Fallow are white or very pale Menilistic Fallow are black or very dark. http://www.deer-uk.com/fallow_deer1.htm
