Afternoon on the stubble

I got a text from the farmer on Monday advising that the fields were being harvested this week and so the pigeon shooting should be plentiful. Arranged to leave work early on Fri and was at my permission by 1pm and set up by 2pm. Unfortunately the 2 fields I had hoped to shoot were still being harvested so I set up on an adjoining field that had a flight line across the middle of it. I had been asked to stay away from the small wood at the end of the field as it contained the pheasant pen so I set my hide up smack bang in the middle of the field next to a straw bail. I wasn't sure if this would work but found that if I kept still with my barrels below the netting until the last possible minuote then it worked a treat.

There wasn't a great number of pigeons about but several decoyed text bookly and I ended up with 8 in 2 hrs. the most pleasing thing was that I only used 13 shells whereas my normal ratio is 1 in 4 at best. I typically use 1/4 and 1/2 chokes but changed to 1/2 and 3/4 for this otingand I'm not sure if it was in my head but it worked a lot better and made a real difference. managed to make a few Pigeon kebabs which went down very well with a few beers on Sunday.

Not nearly as good as some of the bags that are posted on here but for the limited birds around and my limited ability it was a great afternoon.
