My mate drives/lamps and squeaks on the back of his hand. I keep practicing the squeaking, but he is miles better at it than me

decroyffe
i've tried for years now to perfect a squeek on my hand, long distance is shocking but i've got it down to a tee close range, more of a distressed mouse. i try to bring the fox right in to the shot gun however, some won't have it so i some times have to result in using the rifle. hope you get yourself some more tonight. regards kieran

deadeye ive
I find that I shoot most Foxes between 100-175 yds. My mate drives/lamps and squeaks on the back of his hand. Hod If my memory serves me well you have a 8 x 56 smidt and i'm surprised that in all 4 cases the only shot that presented itself was the head at the ranges you state ..Not taking anything away as it shows your set up is spot on and you have confidence in it as well as yourself ,,,,,,,,,,,,,good shooting
Kikkan
Im sorry, but i dont find this "good shooting" at all. Shooting a fox i the head from that distance is pathetic if you ask me... What's with the headshoots? Is it a fox with heas brain running out and eyes sticking out that turn people on theese days?

Many will go for the heart. however some people prefer to take a head shot to ensure that there vermin is dispatched quickly and humainly. Also for anyone who uses the coat.... it give them more untouched skin to use.
Hunter
I go for the head on 99.9% of all shooting that I do But no offence I do find those pictures a little.. disrespectful to the animals you have taken. Yes it proves your ammo choice is suitable.. I just find that a little OTT in my opinion. Your shooting is pretty spot on though, keep it up! welshdragon77
Hi Good shooting there, im all for good hunting, and clean kills, where the right caliber is used and aiming for the priority kill zones but i find those pics out of place. We all see pics of dead animals but to me those pics portray a disrespect to the animals, "in a weird boasting way" I hope this site does not turn into one of those USA sites where people boast how they kill their quarry with what caliber and showing gory pics of their kill. Again maybe my view is wrong abut we are all allowed to express them. I do not condemn his shooting, im sure he is an excellent hunter and marksman, its just the pictures are offensive to the quarry. Thanks Welshmountain
Hodmedod.one
I posted these pics to prove a point after someone posted a comment on another thread that PPU ammo wasn't any good. I do apologise for the graphic nature of the pics, but that is what happens when a fox gets hit by a .243 100gn softpoint. Posting pics of foxes that hardly have a hair out of place wouldn't really prove the point quite so well. PPU ammo works very well in my Steyr SSG. It may not be so good in other makes of weapon. I can only speak as I find. As for headshots, if a fox is standing directly facing me, I go for the head. If my estimate of the distance is slightly out, I hit the neck. If my windage allowance is out, its a miss. I would rather do this than aim for the chest and possibly cripple it by just hitting it in the shoulder. Sideways on, its normally the boiler room. I do have the upmost respect for my quarry and I don't think that any of these foxes suffered at my hands.

Hod, I think that just about sums it up, and that was the point I was trying to make  [ I get the impression Mry and Rogo like PPU stuff as well ] Funnily enough enough Sellier & Bellot ammo doesn't get a very good press but shoots quite well in my gun - it's a funny old game . . . Bazooka Joe
Enter the world of the rifle, I don't think for one moment that Hodmedod.one was portraying the Fox as suggested. I posted these pics to prove a point after someone posted a comment on another thread that PPU ammo wasn't any good. Don't look at the pictures, look at the point he is making, This is what rifles/ammo does, BJ.
kipper
Not nice pics to some people (I can understand there point). But you cant argue, that is a humane kill. I think it would have been instant. how mutch more respect could you give a animal. no suffering or pain just lights out. very good shooting. keep up the good work.
