Pigeon Shooting semi auto

Hi all, I’m thinking of getting an auto solely for pigeons and leaving the o/u at home, or just for the better shoots. In the past I’ve own Beretta and found cleaning a bit of a pain. So now the plan is to go for a Benelli M2, any Benelli owners out there?

I have the m2 and the Vinci both good guns the Vinci struggles to cycle 28 gram loads but it might just need a few heavy loads put through it were as the m2 I've had 21 gram clay loads through it with no problems great guns that's why I parted with the berettas and kept the benelli s

I have had an M2 for years, gets abused on the foreshore and....(when I get the chance), used for pigeons too. Not the softest shooting 12G in the world but utterly reliable with any load down to 28grm and feels like it will outlast me. Easy to strip down and clean but check for fit as it can come up short for some, very pointable if ok for you. Some will mention the 'Benelli click' which will happen if you knock the butt on the ground after loading......the bolt comes back a fraction so won't fire, it's not a fault.......you just have to be aware of it.

If it fits, it's a real workhorse of a gun and I'm sure you will be happy as long as you aren't recoil shy.

After years of shooting a Beretta A303 at clays/Woodies I decided to treat myself to an M2 in wetlands cammo. Beautifully made and shot/cleaned like a dream, only trouble was it was so unreliable. After no end of trying different makes, loads and length of shells i had to admit defeat. Last year I purchased a Remmy Versamax and can honestly say it's the most reliable/softest shooting auto i've ever shot. 3,000 shots later without a SINGLE jam/stovepipe or failure to feed using any/all brands from subsonics through to 3.5 mags awesome!!

I brought my m2 second hand, though I was told it had only 50 - shots through it and it was in mint condition!

When got it I shot about 150 30g clear pigeons through it will out any jams! After this I've been using a range of 24g up to 32g carts with it and still have never had any jams. Been using both 67mm and 70mm carts no problem at all!!!

Also the recoil is very mangaable! With 28g I hardly notice it at all!

Overall I'm very happ with my m2 and it's disappointing hear that other have had some difficulty with there!

All the best in what u choose

I use a Beretta Xtrema2 but if I had to choose purely for pigeons, I would go back to the remmi 11-87.

Why? I have just sold my Remmi 11-87 and bought an Extrema 2 hopefully for reliability reasons. I can honestly say I have never shot better with any other gun in all of my shooting life, (I love the slightly ramped and raised rib), but the jam ups have been very annoying. I hope I can shoot as well with the Extrema but haven't had a chance to properly try it because of work.

You've made a wise choice!

I've got a Benelli M2 24" I also originally bought it as a pigeon hide gun. However since owning it I pretty much use it for everything. It's a can do all gun and quickly became my favourite.

I love all my guns, but if I choose one and get rid of the rest. The M2 would stay. A perfect practical no nonsense gun.

In short I'm very happy with it and welcome to the M2 family. I can't help singing its praises whenever a M2 thread comes up
