Trying to change wheel and the last garage can't have used a torgue wrench as I have now bent 2 wheel braces trying to undo nuts !!!!! Any ideas anyone ?? Tried a little wd40 but the wrenches are pretty knackered now
castletyne
You could try heating the nuts uP or give them a few hits with a hammer

Peskyfoxs
Don't think I have a socket right size, tried the bar that bent the wrench over, even with bar right up to head of wrench
darren 67
What motor is it and what side drivers or passengers?
TaxiDriver
Don't think I have a socket right size, tried the bar that bent the wrench over, even with bar right up to head of wrench What car is it ? What you want is a breaker bar, power bar or sometimes refered to as a knuckle bar and a 1/2" drive impact socket most car accessory shops do an extendable wheel wrench with a double sided socket to fit either 17mm or 19mm most commonly used on passenger cars. Cost is approx £10 - £20 WD40 is of little use as its a water dispersant with some lubricating properties, not a penetrating release agent. ferguson_tom
You sometimes find the wheel braces are made of pretty **** metal they can be quite easy to bend if they are cheap ones. A proper breakers bar and an extension (bit of tube) over the end should do the trick. Or if you know someone with a impact driver that will whip them straight off. Peskyfoxs
Hurray ... Found a socket in the man cave that fit and with 3ft bar all now free ! Thank for the idea, just didn't think of that It's now peeing it down :-( Thank for offers of help & advice, it's a Volvo V70 rear wheel
HDAV
They willhave done them up with an impact driver and probably not bothered with a torque wrench............... a proper socket and something long (seen an 18 stone mechanic hane off a 6 foot scaffold tube with a snap 1/2" ratchet on the end trying to undo a truck wheel nut............ cheap ratchet will slip... Rupert
Put a packing under the bend in the wheelbrace so all downward force is turned into rotational force. Near to BD19?
