-Mongrel- Posted September 23, 2013 Report Share Posted September 23, 2013 Before I get the WD40 and big hammer out, can anyone suggest why I can't get the diff lock on a D2 manual to engage? The high and low ratios engage ok, but I cannot move the lever to the left to engage diff lock...not a millimetre! I am assuming it is a mechanical engagement rather than an electronic solenoid? If it's the linkage then are we talking penetrating oil and just keep working it until it frees, or will it need slightly more robust persuasion? PhilR Posted September 23, 2013 Report Share Posted September 23, 2013 My 2003 uplift model doesn't have the diff lock fitted. The gubbins isn't there either, some models you just need to get hold of the linkage and connect it up. I think the very last ones had it all back in and working. -Mongrel- Posted September 23, 2013 Author Report Share Posted September 23, 2013 Right, well. it shows diff lock on the selecter, and it shows how to use the diff lock in the manual, this is an early model (1995) and as far as I can ascertain it should have. Pheasant Feeder Posted September 23, 2013 Report Share Posted September 23, 2013 1995 would be a 300tdi unless I'm mistaken. If so the linkage usually gets seized up through lack of use, crawl underneath with an oil can and get somebody to work it gently from inside the cab. Had the same problem on a 1996 300tdi years ago, it didn't take a lot to free it off. If your convinced it is a discovery 2 (td5) I too was of the opinion that they replaced diff-lock with traction control and hill descent control. Daveo26 Posted September 23, 2013 Report Share Posted September 23, 2013 Your sound then should be an easy fix. i took the interior out around the gear lever and took the top off the box, stuck it in a vice and oiled that bitch up then it freed off and never caused problems again. They guy I bought it from knew his Discos, has had about 10 of them now and the numbers matched up ok so I have no reason to think it's anything other than a 200 to be honest. jgguinness Posted September 24, 2013 Report Share Posted September 24, 2013 When I bought mine, about 4 years ago, the lever could engage low box no probs by moving the lever forward, but was seized and wouldn't move right to left to engage the diff lock. A small amount of time, iirc stripping the centre console out etc allowed me to fix it. Seem to remember removing the lever unit, sorting it, and putting it back together, but may be mistaken. neil3728 Posted September 26, 2013 Report Share Posted September 26, 2013 I have a 300tdi, if diff lock ever gets stuck, fastest way i ahve found to release it, is to sit in the passenger seat and give the lever a quick kit.
