lister1
Ive spent many early morns watching the skys and meteors pass by. I have some awsome memories of standing on a sea wall on an wildfowling adventure as a shooting star passes by. Simple things make life a better place. liam_italian
I remember seeing my first meteor last year whilst at work. It reminded me of the scene in transformers when they are falling into the atmosphere, lol
Dougy
Comet or sat ? i remember hale bop that was in the sky for a few days , hell of a sight the satellite,s are easily distinguished by there consistent speed and line of flight. I saw a very bright shooting star earlier this year that was in the nationals, it was an amazing sight, quite often I see them whilst out foxing. Always too quick to get a photograph. kiffy
another interesting one is the international space station, i have a website link at home that when you enter your location gives you times and a direction it passes overhead. ive tried it and youy can quite clearly see the bright dot travelling from one side of the sky to the other. some keen amateur astronomers have also been able to photograph it fairly well with their home scopes, ive even seen one photo of it with the shuttle docked

KFC
Every August is a great shower called the Perseids shower. 12th to the 20th is the peak. The Leonids in November is good too. http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/earthskys-meteor-shower-guide Back in the 80's I was watching the Perseids at about 0230. From the horizon a really big bright one started coming towards me. It was leaving an orange trail and as it got overhead it split into two. One side turned green and the other side turned blue. It left a great big 'Y' shape hanging in the sky for several seconds afterwards. It was so big that I've often wondered if it was actually a meteor or if it could have been a bit of space junk. Unlikely to be space junk. Many of the visible satellites are just old rockets used to position working satellites, and they behave like any other satellite. A steady pace and direction, not the whizz and flash like you saw.
old rooster
If you have access to a spot with minimal light pollution it is amazing just how many satellites pass overhead! Was laying on a sun lounger (can you call it that if it is being used in pitch darkness??) watching the Perseids earlier this year and saw at least half a dozen satellites go over. vampire
Yeah have seen lots of meteors over the years and the dot travelling through sky and the comet, but this meteor was coming down in front of me just above tree line at an angle of about 18 degrees,i swear it must have come down just a few miles up the road,if i had the shot gun it would of been in range
