richie223
I took the brother in law down the range yesterday to try out his new hmr.i also took my hmr as I wanted to check the zero.anyway all was going well until the bullet head got stuck up the spout of the brother inlaws gun . luckily he noticed before firing and we managed to rod it out.after I abused him as you do messing around we carried on shooting.i filled my mag and sent 2 rounds down range both hitting the target.or at least I thought! Both rounds sounded good and went to send the 3rd.jesus if I did.an almighty bang and wollop and a fright I realised the mag had been blown out of the stock.i found bits of the mag on the floor behind me.luckily there is no damage to the rifle.so to say I am upset is an understatement. And you guessed it 17 grain hornady v max.so I got to fork out for a new mag as its out of action till I get one . anyone know how much roughly one cost for a hw 60j? Cottonseed
A new mag for your HWJ is a little over £50. You can get them from Chambers gun spares in Scotland. You'll find them with Google.. Was the Hornady ammo you were using old stuff, from, say 18 months to two years' old? Hornady say they have fixed the defective stuff, but these incidents still happen occasionally. I understand if you return the ammo to Edgar Bros via your RFD they will replace them. deaquire
Jesus that's terrifying! Certainly going to be handling my HMR with trepidation for a long while. Did one round cause all the rounds that were remaining in the mag to explode as well or were they intact?
richie223
No the round left was intact.i found that in my toolbox I use for the range

Salop Matt
Did the round chamber or was the round crushed when chambering the round, then setting the round off ? Sounds like it wants reporting to Hornaday ! ATB Matt
saddler
I'd be asking for money back on the ammo PLUS the cost of a replacement magazine from Edgars They SHOULD have issued a full recall on the bad batches of ammo when the problems were first known about

bruno22rf
Surely this Ammo can be traced and recalled? If not then why all the form filling when you buy the stuff? -EB need to get their fingers out before someone gets hurt and they find themselves on the wrong side of a lawsuit. dadioles
I know you said earlier that the bullet was properly chambered and the bolt properly closed but surely that would effectively seal the bullet into the barrel and not allow such a dramatic pressure burst into the magazine. Maybe I am wrong there and only guessing. Maybe it is not an ammunition problem but a bolt / firing pin / feed issue that could have happened with any round. For your mate to get a bullet stuck in the barrel suggests damp ammunition causing slow or incomplete combustion or perhaps a cartridge containing only primer. That is almost certainly an incident that can be attributed to the ammunition. The chamber explosion is different both in cause and effect. It was also another batch of ammunition. An extraordinary set of circumstances. There may not be any link at all between the two events, just coincidence. Pretty damn scary though. The cause of the chamber explosion does not seem to be as simple as faulty ammunition, it sounds to be as though the bullet was not properly seated for whatever reason.
