HDAV
they are pretty good, the strobe light option is really cool, if the burglars are epileptic then there in real trouble Lol many years ago I was in a course for programming a lighting control system and we did this in the training session but were advised against flashing the lights in a building incase thre was an epileptic burglar......... There is now DNA smoke that will leave a smart water type trace....

Lord O War
Just caught a segment on the local news that mentioned gun thefts as I am in the North West I can only assume that is going to be an hysterical item on Kelbrook. I will see what they have to say UPDATE it was Kelbrook and it was quite restrained. 16 semi's stolen, they took 17 but dropped one, the police are trying to track them down. No shouting and screaming about how gun owners are all child killers. Edited October 29, 2013 by Lord O War

No but they did put across the point that they where the most dangerous type of weapon, I think they where trying to make it sound even worse than it actually is

fortune
Earlier this year a person that I know, was subjected to an early morning ( 4.30 am) home invation by three intruders. One was definally armed, Another had a jemy bar to lever the back door open. Both the householder and his wife were knocked about quite badly by the intruders. The housholder was violently struck on the head with the jemy bar which split his head and knocked him out for a while. Several times in the past I had told him to consider his security, as he is a bit isolated and a prime target. He had an Alsatian and a large husky as big as the Alsatian. He had the mindset of "it won’t happen to me”, and even worse, they wont come here, “The dogs will see them off". He never locked his back door and when the invaders came they just opened the door and let the dogs out. When the dogs were barking they just ignored them thinking it was just a fox out in the back yard. In this thread post #7 by Kent He posted >> Incredible, I remember speaking to him about the roof risk a few years back. He poo-pood the idea and said it was lined with steel sheet (obviously not that well)In post # 27 Gunman wrote If they want to be in , they will be . Locks and bolts will only keep honest people out. The person that I know displayed all of the above traits and ignored the warnings. The house has now been fitted with a high security door and other security devices but it is a bit late now. A man that I work with used to own a garage and had an alsatian on the premises as a free roving security guard. The burglers/invaders that broke into his garage beat the dog on the head with a bar or similar with severe consequences for the animal. It had fitts and convultions and later died. It wont happen to me.
kent
Connected to Fortunes post and the mention of dogs. Some years back an uncle of mine bred and dealt in dogs. He was asking around about any meaner than hells own child types that needed re-homing as a pure guard. His client had a caravan storage site and was fed up to the back teeth with thefts, the dog was to be in an enclosed perimeter run around the whole site. Anyway the dog was found a call came in, "got one in the yard, mate". "If you can get him in your van without injury or death he is yours for free", sounded like a challenge so I tagged along. We stopped at the butchers and got a big chunk of fresh liver. On arrival the dog was seen and a plan hatched. I was to reverse the van in while he laid on the roof holding the liver doors open, after teasing the dog with the liver it was thrown in the back- dog followed doors slammed shut from above. Release into the enclosed run was even easier, we just did the reverse. Do you think the caravans were safe? not for long those travellers know their dogs! they brought along an in season bitch after clocking "mad dogs" conkers she distracted him they took the biggest haul yet! NOTE; this was a long time ago when such actions were still acceptable practice The moral to the story is; no security system is infallible but a combination of things makes things so much better. At least the dog was not poisoned the night before as happened to a friend two rotties. Dogs are a deterent not a defence against the truly determined who plan

kent
Do you think they will get nine years ? I don`t I thought 5 minimum. However if it gets classed as armed robbery rather than burglary and possession t feel there is a fair chance

Cottonseed
I cannot believe some of the comments on hear nearly as bad as those in the paper. When is it the victims fault for being robbed? The police have managed to brain wash everyone into thinking it is there fault if they are a victim of crime. Example -If you get burgled it is because everyone else fitted and alarm and you didnt, hence became the victim. Criminals are the cause of crime. Fifity years ago you did not have to lock your door now you need to live in fortnox or you are 'inviting crime' Spot on.
