shugmcm
hi folks, noticed when my 1994 terrano was idling it started to lose power and then it shutoff, when under the bonnet and started to hear it cutting out I primed the filter and that kept it going, so I changed the fuel filter checked all the seals and pipes, and it done it again, and if I brake it wants to shutoff, as long as I keep the accelerator pressed it seems to be fine, it does this every time im driving slowing down or just idling, any ideas would be appreciated,2.7 td, auto

shugmcm
thanks a lot mate, I also noticed when I was on a slight slope facing down the way it was normal, it ticked over fine, and soon as I came off the slope it started to lose power, im now thinking its the fuel tank or fuel lines drawing in air, also what I done was for about 15 miles gave it a good run sitting about 85mph, made no difference, so when in normal driving ive got to brake and hold accelerator slighty to keep it going when stopping at lights etc
ditchman
is your fuel pump on the way out .....the diaphrams might not be sealing .........by fuel pump i mean fuel pump not injector pump

Paul223
Get underneath and have a look at the metal fuel lines, see if they are badly corroded
Paul223
Or get some good fitting clear hose and connect between the fuel filter and the pipe from the fuel filter to the pump, run and you'll see if there is air being dragged in

silver pigeon69
Does it have Vacuum assisted brakes?? if so its prob either a faulty brake servo or a brake vacuum hose. This would explain the stalling when braking.
shugmcm
Hi folks. Had a chance to look at tank and lines. And there is seeping coming from fuel lines. Paul223
If your unsure the wether the problem is caused by air getting in or not just run it on a jerry can under the bonnet for 5 mins I'll bet its air, done loads of em

NIGHT SEARCHER
If its anything like a shogun/pajero that's a warnjng you're fuel pump is on its way outski Shogun injector pump is no problem it`s just the front seal that goes at about 140.000 or 10 year old. www.Mitziheads.co.uk comes to your home or work takes our pump off Fits a new seal re-fits the pump all timed up £160. He has found the problem the fuel lines are shot drawing air in the fuel system. I have done loads of them. Frontera`s. Land Rovers. Discos. Shoguns. All suffer with rotten fuel lines letting air in the fuel systems. Edited October 30, 2013 by NIGHT SEARCHER
shugmcm
Thats a good price eh. Only paid 500 quid for terrano, recon engine and transmission. But with other things Had problem after problem with it. Been ok getting it fixed, done most of it myself. Keep costs down. But if it gets into the hundreds. Bye bye terrano. Thanks for the tip

That could be a problem with a petrol but diesels pull vacuum with a pump not through the inlet manifold
