double10
evening all, getting the gun tomorrow so thought we'd get some cartridges at the same time. It's steel proofed under/over. We'll mainly be using it for clays and ideally a cheaper cart would be preferred, have you any suggestions as to which brand etc to go for? Had a look at ch westons in brighton and they do Velocity carts for 150 quid per 1000 so cheap as they go but are they any good? cheers

Gunnerbob
Use Kent Velocity in my 525, very happy with them....
Subaru_sti5
I also used these carts and coincidently also bought them from westons, used them for the first time a few weeks ago and thought they were great.
huds78
I use these as well after finding that my Escort wouldn`t cycle Eley 1sts properly but had no trouble with these. I used the Eleys up in my Silver Pigeon but will only use the Velocitys in either now as they do seem to be a more consistent cartridge. Also the guns appear to be cleaner after using the Velocitys but thats probably just in my mind ?

Now that's interesting, after using comp x, the velocity's seemed dirtier, reckon storing them in a cold shed didn't help....

Are the blue ones ? if so I`ve used them before and found them good as well but to get them I have to drive 3 times as far as I do to get the Velocitys so I only get them if I`m over that way anyways. deershooter
Why does most on here shoot **** cartridges use a proper competition shell like Hull sovereigns or Express super comps Deershooter
Ttfjlc
Why does most on here shoot **** cartridges use a proper competition shell like Hull sovereigns or Express super comps Deershooter 1) Cost 2) Stock availability 3) Many other reasons that other members may care to mention One thing I wouldn't mind knowing deershooter is what do the 2 brands you have mentioned do better? Is it down to patterns, consistency etc? I was shooting with an AA class gunner today and he was using eley firsts (not for me though as I find they are dirty). Cheers, J
HDAV
Never found the "dirt" to effect the number of clays broken....... Eley VIP are nice to shoot but firsts break em just as well.... Ilike Olympics but only in plaswad which can be an issue for some

Ttfjlc
I shot just as well with firsts but I just find they leave a lot more **** in the barrels for some reason and like my local rfd has said they are no better than other equally matched brand hence I have bought another slab of rio top 20's and got on fairly well with them today

I understand your point about the top shooters using the best but somebody that goes once a week at most would it really make such a difference?
