staffyspen
Evening all, Just looking for a few tips on selecting shotguns and maybe some recommendations. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be getting my sgc, all being well and will be looking for an all round shotgun for myself, for clay, pigeon abd poss bolting rabbit with 200-300 to spend? My consider buying a little something for my son (12) to use on clays, Any recommendations or advice would be great!! Thanks
fenboy
Not a huge budget but for that money you should pick up a tidy ish Lanber or a Rizzini . Ideal gun for the lad would be a 28 or 20 gauge at that age .
huds78
You could also pick up a nice semi-auto for that sort of money, I`ve just sold a Hatsan escort for around that money and tbh I would of kept it as it was a great all rounder if I hadn`t spent too much elsewhere. bostonmick
i would say your budget is a little on the small side for a good all round gun there are a few cheap o/u out there but if they do not fit you then you are wasting your money.you are probably looking at lanber.laurona.or Baikal.and for your son at his age a twenty bore however these tend to cost more.go down the semi auto route and you are in hatsan territory or maybe a old remi but to be honest i do not think they make good all rounders just my own opinion .drop into a few shops and try a few for feel.i would not give a specific recommendation as your gun will be personal to you. staffyspen
Thanks all, Agreed the budget is not massive but for a first gun I'd rather not spend a fortune till I know what's right fir me, the budget could be up'd but I'd rather not. Thanks again!
Poole
Hi, phone around your local gunshops and see what trade ins they have, I started out at 14 with a left handed AYA 12bore and loved it
HDAV
How many times have you shot? A good few lessons is the ideal way to start, try plenty of guns learn how they feel with an experienced eye watching over you, they can feel stunning in the shop and awful when you pull the trigger! Buy once and buy right will save you lots of money in the long run (more to spend on carts)
deershooter
That's extreme entry level only spending £200 you are likely to buy trouble £450-£600 would be normal entery level and even so still bottom end Good luck but take some one with you who knows about guns Deershooter
spinach
Just keep looking, no point going ott on price. You should be able to get a decent workable pointy thing that does everything you need for that. Keep looking at wabbitboshers guns or drop him a line, sure he could sort you out with something. GingerCat
£250 can see u with a tidy but used lanber or similar. It won't win a beauty contest but will be tight with sound bores. First gun you want for clays and rough shooting so an o/u will be fine, with less to worry about than a pump or semi. Biakial is worth consideing, i and I'm sure Many others started there and some stay there happily, at the end of the day it's a tube of metal that fires shot. Get it in 12 bore and worry about the rest as and when. Wabbitbosher on here has some cracking deals. Pm him. Even if the guns rough as a 12 Pinter on a Saturday night in Grimsby you can finish the stock a bit and shine it up providing it fits and the bore is sound. ehb102
I have a Baikal side by side and I shot with someone with a vintage Baikal O/U at the weekend. I don't know what the bad reputation is about. Certainly any vintage Baikal still around seems to be pretty indestructible. Would anyone care to fill in the history for me? oscarsdad
Contact Wabbitbosher on here - he will sort you out with a bargain gun with better after sales service than a lot of gun shops. Ps. Don't call yourself a shotgunner...

staffyspen
Thanks all, just looking for something that shoots straight, cosmetics is not top of the list, Also for something separately that will be light enough for my son to occasionally shot! P.s, shotgunner was just a play on words for the topics sake, not what I will be calling myself!! Regards Spence
bostonmick
as it is your first gun and your budget is tight I would suggest you do not buy a gun off the web without at least seeing it. have you any friends who will let you have a try of their guns to get a feel of what they are like.you will find that most clay grounds are very friendly places.you are to far from me but I am sure there are a few on here that would help out with a try of their guns in your area I have in the past done this for a few newcomers. I agree much better to invest in learning to shoot properly than buying a cheap gun.
