Gunman
Drill driven hones are OK for a bit of polishing but to remove actual metal.ie. pits they are not much good as it will take forever .I know I have tried . You need a proper long mandreled hone with plenty of oil to do any good . In fact that's what I spent most of my afternoon doing .

Bewsher500
Easy way to end up with wrecked barrels ! Best left to those who know. Sorry but why? Those that know started somewhere and their first time at anything was just like yours at anything else........fraught with the possibility of screw ups! its not rocket science and just because it involves a firearm doesn't mean I should have to sell a kidney and be fleeced two ways for shipping to get something done I have built turbos and race engines that have a significantly higher tolerance and chance of ******* up if you do something wrong....think I can manage to use a slow speed drill in a pipe.. question was more to do with products and success that feasibility
B25Modelman
I would have thought a 3 stone mini hone would suffice so long as you stay clear of the choke cones. Pics I have seen of gun manufacturing workshops, the hone is a horizontal machine with the smithy working the barrels backwards and forwards. The only problem is finding a small honing tool. PS you will always get posts from straw chewers. Edited December 15, 2013 by B25Modelman
deershooter
A proper shotgun hone is over 12 inches long this is just the cutting area you try it with a brake cylinder hone it will end up like a catapiller ie big small big small big small Is this really worth the effort when professionals have the proper equipment Been here done it got the tee shirt £24 flex hone £11 import duty and VAT and still toke it to the professionals Deershooter

Paul223
I can't see how a flex hone can do a good job, as mentioned the proper tool has a long stone inserted and can be adjusted so as not to over size, works over a broad area removing the high metal first A flex hone will remove from the trailing edge of any pit quicker than any where else in the bore, and with over use could create rings!, plus there's no way to control how much material is removed
Underdog
I did a muzzleloader full of pits, not to get rid of the pits no but to round them off some so it loaded nicer (felt awfull to load). I used cloth wrapped on a brass rod with various grit wet&dry paper, took ages but worked. I also jug choked a muzzleloader with a mandrel I made from alloy and an old file ground to shape as the cutter. An adjusting screw to push the cutter out. Got 1/4 and 1/2 patterns easy. Takes ages though! U.
