Traztaz
Is that the same as a Nile goose? In which case we can shoot them here, very tasty, awful bird to have on your ground however.

hoggysreels
In hindsight 4 mammals seems odd ... stoat, weasel, rabbit, hare, brown rat, grey squirrel .. even l doubt that!

Traztaz
If you have duck ponds etc eradicate them, they take over and smash all other eggs on the pond, biggest flock I have seen here was about 50 birds, normally seen in pairs
poontang
Regards shooting .. protected species .. curious as to how one would obtain one for consumption .. They're a non native species and can be shot under the terms of the General Licence. http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/Images/wml-gl06_tcm6-24151.pdf
kent
I think the general licence on these birds is localised to specific areas
poontang
I think the general licence on these birds is localised to specific areas I think it used to be, but have re-read the 2014 licence and seems to have been rolled out countrywide now. It don't need to be that way, they don't even exist in many areas. loosing my faith in this "general licence" system
pond digger 007
Non natives are a bad idea in general. There are one or two that aren't a problem and fit in quite well- Little owl and Pheasant for example. However its not worth taking the risk of allowing non-natives to prolliferate. We should learn our lesson from the devastation caused by Grey squirrel, American crayfish, Zebra mussel etc.
Lampwick
Re the non native issue it's been interesting to note the spread and increase of White Egrets in The East. Cracking looking birds. Saw one this afternoon having a fight with a Rook. The Rook wasn't happy! This one was 15 miles further inland than I've seen them before.
